    Sunroof problem

Well when i bought my 95 S about a year ago, the sunroof wasnt working. The guy that i bought it from told me that it would open but not close. He bought a new switch and tried that but it still wouldnt close. He took out a piece so that no one would open it or close it ( its a piece about 3" x 3", looks like a computer chip in a way, and is in a little plastic cover). i have no clue where that goes either... anyone have any ideas on what could be the problem and/or where this piece goes? ( i can send you a pic of the piece if you need to see it)

Unscrew the 30 or so screws holding up the plastic cover to the ceiling. You will then be able to see the internals of the sun roof. I don't exactly know how to describe what I think might be the problem, but there are these two lines that are hooked up to a motor that move the sunroof back and forth. If those lines aren't mounted correctly or broken, then the sunroof can open and not close.

well i tried what moosh said and everything looks alright under there.. the wires seem to have a good connection. Its snowed last night and now water leaked in ... now the head liner is full of water stains as well :x .. anyone else have any ideas or should i just take it to a professional to get it looked at?

btw.. anyone know how much it will cost to get a new headliner?

Well i took out the headliner and checked everything and couldnt find anything wrong with it. I cleaned the tracks, looked at all the wires, all had good connections werent cut anywhere, fuses are good.. cant think of anything else.
I decided to have a professional look at it.My friends brother in law works at a honda dealership so he's gonna get it checked out for me. hopefully it wont be too much to get it fixed. Anyone know how much a motor goes for? (if thats the problem)

Well i got it checked by Blue Sky Sunroofs in Fairfield, NJ. The guy told me that it would run me $800+ to get fixed  I'm gonna have my mechanic take a look at it tomorrow, if its going cost me that much i think its just going to have to stay broken

Uh $800? Definitely try other mechanics. Mines still leaks and stuff but not often.

i got three quotes so far and all want anywhere from 700 and up.. i'm looking to take my power sunroof out and just put in a pop up .. that should solve both the leaking problem and whatever is keeping it from closing.

well i checked every single wire andn they all look fine.. all have a good connection to the motor, switch, etc. Now i'm tempted to plug the "brain" of hte sunroof back in, but the previous owner said it would open but not close...what happens if it doesnt close afterwards?!?!?! :? you think if i push it closed it'll close.. any ideas???

BTW this is an after-market sunroof.. it is not stock. companny name is SKYTOP

ok well i may have found the problem.. i was just about to plug the "brain" of the sunroof in just when i noticed about an inch before one of the plugs, the wire was wrapped in a lot of electirical tape.. well i took that out and i saw that the wire must have been cut and the guy just twisted it back together annd put some electrical tape.. but when he twisted it he didnt bother cutting off a little of the wire cover in order to get a good connection, so there wasnt even half of the wire connected.. think this could be the problem?

If the wires where making contact I doubt it. You would see some action from the sunroof. It would be best to twist the wires up better just so they dont pull loose in the future when you/someone works on your car.

Dont you hate when you go crazy trying to solve a problem for days and the answer is a simple twisted wire.
