Recommend a sub please

Hey all. I used to be really into the car audio scene and then some things happened and I had to sell all my gear. Luckily I kept all my wiring in the galant. Well about a year later I gave into temptation and bought myself an amp. I got http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...r+ZX300.1.html for only $40 used from clist. Just tested it on a pos 8" I had laying around and it delivers.

Now I know it doesnt produce crazy power but I think I got a hell of a deal.

The problem: It delivers 300w @ 2 ohms. So now I need to find a decent but not expensive 300w rms 2 ohm sub, easy right? So far the only thing I've found that seems half way decent is this http://www.amazon.com/Kicker-CompVR-...813473&sr=1-28

But I wanted to get some second opinions. I want the most I can get out of this amp with a single 12. Is there that big of a difference between 10 and 12?

My budget was 100 and I spent 40 on the amp so I have 60 left but then I also need to get a box for it so I guess there goes my budget. I cant find much on my local clist maybe someone on here might have something? Thanks in advance.

What would you recommend if I saved up more? I have the money, its just that I'm trying to keep this as inexpensive as possible. In other words I'm stingy lol. What do you guys think of getting 2 150w 4 ohm subs and run them in series to get 2 ohm each?

I'd rather have a single sub for the space though. And I cant see running a 4 ohm 150w single sub. I like hard pounding bass.

Holy hell that thing is huge. Isnt Steve Meade running 4 of those? The type r's are nice but too pricey for me.

Thanks man I really appreciate it but all those are 4 ohms and wouldnt my 300w amp even if I were able to push 300w to the 4 ohm sub would be underpowering the subs? Most of them are 375-400w.

my understanding of car audio is below limited, but running two 4 ohm resistors in series would result in 8 ohms equivalency, not 2 ohms. You would need to run them in parallel to get a 2 ohm equivalency.

Thanks, I didnt realize the subs you linked to had 2 + and 2 -. Anyway, Yeah I think I will go with that kicker. Why would I want the single voice coil over the dual? Thanks again for the help.

Hey serstylz2 since you posted those crutchfield wiring diagrams I went on the site to check out wiring the 2 ohm dvc sub I ordered. Just a quick question about the diagram because it shows 4ohm at the amp. If I wire the sub like this it will do 2 ohm at the amp correct? I just want to make sure because the amp is rated 150w @ 4 ohm and 300w @ 2 ohm so I just want to make sure I'm getting the 300w.

with a nice box and a decent 2000 watt amp or so these things will damn near rock your car apart. Trust me, i would know. My friend had them in his king cab truck and lets just say he didnt need windshield wipers when it rained. LOL. He also put them in his mustang and had the same shit going on. For the price you can absolutely not go wrong. He pumped these things HARD as hell for a very very long time with absolutely no issues with them what so ever. He got rid of them for 2 planet audio speakers that used a much smaller box for weight reduction in the mustang which are about 3x the price of these.

Sorry but you cant wire a 2ohm DVC to 2ohm to the amp.
Your sub can only be wired to 1ohm or 4ohm.

Ugh I guess now I need a 400w rms 4 ohm mono amp.... I'm broke as hell any recommendations?

Remember I said you can wire your sub to 1 ohm so you need a 400w 1 ohm stable amp. You need to sell the amp you have or something.

Why would I want 1 ohm when 4 ohm seems to be more common and allow me to use more subs later on if I have to replace the one I just got.

If you need to look the wiring diagrams, remember the lower the impedance the more watts the amp send to the sub, if you have one 2ohm dvc you can wire it to 4ohm or 1 ohm, if you can find a amp that produces 300-400w rms @ 1 ohm for that single sub. If you buy another sub of the same kind you can wire each sub at 4 ohm and when connected together to the amp the amp is going to see 2 ohm. This is in a mono amp. Look at the wiring diagrams, each sub if DVC have more than one way of wiring it depending on what you have or what you need.
