2003 Galant - Use an ipod on a stock Head Unit?

    Long time lurker here...

So I recently picked up a 2003 Galant V6 ES with 29000 mi for $4200 bucks. It was quite the steal, but I'm broke now

I've had the car long enough and now I remember why I had an Ipod dock in my pickup! CDs freaking blow man. I'm sick of the mess and burning off new CDs.

So does anyone know if there's an auxiliary ipod cable to wire in behind the head unit? Will it work with my radio?

Here is a picture of my radio's front, as I didn't want to tear my dash apart if this doesn't work:

head units are pretty cheap now a days. you can get a decent one with AUX port for like 50 bucks now and install yourself. your only other option is the radio receiver thing you connect to your iPod. which isn't that much cheaper then a new head stereo

FM Transmitters are trash. What decent head unit and wiring harness are you gonna get for 50 bucks?

I did some googleing (yes I'm using it as a verb :P) found this:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...d=390206179686

24 bucks shipped man. The ad says to hold the CD button in and AUX should come up. My radio doesn't do that.

Yet this site says nothing about that:

Am I SOL, or is this possible?

Then get an FM transmitter because that is what you're gonna have to do. Dont get a cheap POS and it will work. I've had a Monster FM transmitter in the G for the past 3 years and I havent seen a reason to upgrade.

Get the transmitter, or grab that Sony deck. That "POS" Sony head unit will be better than our factory radio... pretty much anything will be. You can get them even cheaper from ebay or craigslist, if you find one in good shape. You must have your reason for wanting to stay stock, but I don't understand why :P If you're worried about install, it's really really easy and straightforward. If you're worried about selling it in the future, keep the stock head unit and reinstall it when you sell. E-emerson is right when he says you're almost spending the same amount of money to get a direct AUX link as you would to get the transmitter, which I would do personally, but 03-galant says he's had good experiences with the transmitter, and he knows what he's talking about too.

You have one more option if you really want to stay cheap. The 99 galant comes with a cassette player. If you can find one on eBay (I found one for $20 shipped), it's plug and play into your car and you can then get the cassette adapter for cheap and that's the best quality you're going to find for an iPod interface without changing anything.

HERE IS YOUR SOLUTION.Its a plug and play interface from PAC.
    http://pac-audio.com/productDetails....&CategoryID=36
It will allow you to hardline connect your ipod along with any other divice you may choose. you can do it yourself or have a pro do it and maintain your factory radio.

yeah the super duty FM transmitter. eh. I'd rather just hold the money and buy a head unit.

if that case then your better saving for a head with an ipod interface cable(allows you to controll ipod from headunit) and not even look at units that just allow aux input. also what gen ipod do you have because the latest gens charge on 5volt so make sure the radio doesnt require a charge adapter.

this radio should cover all those basis and will allow you to ad bluetooth later if you want to. the ipod cable also plugs into the front so you dont have to run wires and shit if you dont want to also making it easier to just unplug and take with you without people seeing you have an ipod in your car. $199.99 SRP means you can find it cheaper than that. 3 set rca preout at 4v so youll have front/rear/sub seperatly if you want to upgrade speakers later.

id need to do a lot of investigating before purchasing any radios from them. i watched the demo video on there D1305 model and in the video the screen clearly shows a GPS button but if you scroll down to first picture in Bright Red letters it says (Notice: This Item Doesent Have GPS Funtion) to me that means its not capable of gps at all ......so why is there a gps button?

They are GPS add-on "GPS ready". You could get it with GPS or without. But they have the function for it. mines has the option but i decide not to get the GPS since i have a portable. But i could all ways get it for extra $100 dollars. I'm planning to upgrade in the future to a double din radio from them. Right now i got the http://www.eonon.com/Car-DVD-Players...DVD/D1303.html

U can't go wrong with the price. If you compare the $800-1000 radio like kenwood, pioneer with the same features. Search and see. Double check all the feature they offer for the price. It is hard to resist. I will get this, the newest 2 din model. http://www.eonon.com/Car-GPS/2-Din-C...VD/G2210U.html

see for me thats just the thing. Im upgrading my pioneer to the Pioneer AVH-P5200BT
■Interface revamp touchscreen control and customizable menus. Tap, Swipe or Drag — exactly the way you expect a touchscreen device to work.
■Direct IPod control featuring album art display, double-tap Alphabet Search, iTunes
    Tagging and Passenger Control mode.
■Navigation Ready! Easily add Navigation to any new AVH system with the AVIC-U220.
■New features: Bluetooth® built-in, Dual-Zone Video, SD Memory Card slot, 8-Band Graphic EQ with Auto-EQ, and more!
■DVD Video, DivX, MP3/WMA/iTunes AAC playback
    ■SD Card Slot
    http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...rs/AVH-P5200BT

The top of the Line Model Eonon has only Plays
AVI/DVD/DVD+R/DVD-R/DVD-RW/VCD/MP3/CD/CD-RW/JPEG-so id loose out on Divix WMA and AAC Files that i Now play from my Thumb Drive and External Drive. There model doesent support external harddrives
The Eq is a only a 4band preset Vs 8 Band Para.
Personally as a starter radio for someonne that wants something flashy with a few bells an whistles id say take a chance with the Eonon radio. But if you know your the type thats allways gonna upgrade to something better for more sound more speed more power more more more then go with a pioneer or alpine deck (although pioneer just took away alpines edge by redeploying its add on navi) it will hold you for at least two upgrade seasons. I do like the 8"screen and the built in vga Mode of the Eonon but they make VGA-Rca adapter cables so i can just use that.

Eonon support DivX and WMA, they dont put it on the descripiton because of some patent issue, but if you ask their customer service, they will tell you the product support these format. Just try it, i got my unit can play all these format.

Overall the unit is fantastic value for money at only $170 for 7" of Blutooth, DVD, SD, USB, Ipod, MP3, AVI, TV (if you set up the aerial) etc etc etc playability. I couldn't reccommend it more. If you already have a "cheapish" couple of amps to power your speakers then you'll find the sound quality very high.

For whatever reason the output from the Pioneer head unit to the sub cuts anything above 130hz. The eonon sends a full signal to the sub. I then use my amplifiers to tune what i hear, by putting on a low pass filter and considering my sub is only small and responsive (for bass lines) i can set it to about 200-250hz and gain a full depth of bass from the sub. Eonon sounds better really.

Eonon is now holding a groupbuy on a mazda3forum for specific unit this month, over 40 members have already buy it. My friend bought one and greatly recommand it to me. So bought a D2208. so far satisfy.
