    Manual shifter base alignment problems

    So, I've hit my first real hitch in the 5spd swap today:

    The mounting points on the manual shifter base don't match the ones on the auto shifter base. Is this normal, and I just never ran across that piece of info?

    The car is a 2000 ES, I'm not sure what year eclipse the shifter came from (it's the one I got from Rizzo29).

    Right now, I'm thinking of drilling/tapping new holes to mount it. Is that a good workaround? Is there anything under there I'm likely to damage with a drill bit?

    so where the auto shifter bolts in, the manual shifter doesn't line up? you sure the shifter is from a 3rd gen eclipse? I have an 03 and i didn't have any problems with it lining up... any pictures?
    Edit, i would make sure that the 5 speed shifter is from a 3rd gen...

    Yeah, a 3G shifter base should line up to the existing shifter base holes. I had no issues whatsoever, and I've never heard of anybody having this issue.

    So, I looked at bmaddock's swap, and it looks like he has the same shifter base. I'm thoroughly confused now... O.o

    Edit: I'm a retard, it's definitely different. It looks like the cables and everything will still fit, though? If the cables work, I'll just figure out how far back from the firewall it goes and tap new holes.

    Some with a clue one stop me if that's a horrible idea.

    I have an extra 3rd gen shifter and base if you want it. You are close enough to me to just come pick it up unless you want me to overnight it. I live in La Grange. Just pm me if you are interested

    Ok, so can anyone confirm for me that I do indeed have a 2G shifter base?

    I got my cables today, and everything fits together perfectly. I'm torn between getting a new one or just tapping holes for my current one.

    if you look at the pictures we provided... obviously you don't have the correct shifter lol... i would do it right, and get the right shifter man, no sense in making more work, and drilling more holes, when menace let you know that he has an extra... don't take short cuts, do it right

    I don't know where that shifter base came from but it's not the right one. It's obviously not the correct spacing, plus look at galantman03's base on top by the shifter rod. You will see there is a nut on a stud holding the shifter in place. That is the most obvious sign you have a different shifter.

    ^ and his shifter base is square, while mine kinda flows in and then out again, if that makes sense...

    Yeah I'm seeing the same thing looking at my spare base in the garage. We think too alike, it's almost scary.

    Lol, I get it man. I know it's different, but I wanted to confirm for sure what it was actually from.
