    Camber Tires

Hey guys, someone posted this on socal3g. It's pretty interesting.

John Scott's Optima Sports development of the "Camber Tire" - a radical tire with an asymmetrical profile with an inner sidewall significantly shorter than the outer sidewall.

    Must read:
    http://www.automobilemag.com/feature...res/index.html

Camber Tire delivers a long list of claimed benefits:

    Quieter running
    Reduced tread wear
More predictable response during emergency maneuvers
    Increased track width
Improved handling, braking, and high-speed stability
    Improved straight-line steering
Superior performance during oval track racing

(See Scott's website, www.cambertire.com, for the patent disclosure and detailed list of performance claims.)

shortened stopping distance by 11 feet and increased cornering grip by more than four percent (left and right lateral acceleration average)

turn in smartly with a purely linear and predictable response.

uncanny ability to traverse pavement imperfections and potholes with much less trauma transmitted through the car's chassis.

Interesting. I'll wait to see the truth of the matter.

I'm with Dave. The concept is definitely interesting, but I'd like to see some results after many more miles.

If you post stupid and incorrect information, you will get red nuggets.

oh there's also a video of Jay Leno and John Scott discussing the tire. You'll see in the background the South Coast Mitsubishi Evo, which I actually just saw at the South Coast Mitsubish Appreciation Event (post-MOD event). I'm wondering if they used these camber tires on the track.

    here it is:

there site is still under construction but the article says Plans are afoot for Optima Sports to sell some Camber Tires in the size we tested here to early adopters such as SCCA Solo competitors, track day users, and fanatic street drivers?

Well i think we all fall in the "fanatic street drivers" section of life so anyone have a clue who they will be selling through?
