pretty wicked VR4 restore!!! check it out

this is not ME, saw it on the other forum and thought i share.....

    Hello Guys,

Wanted to share my project car I am working on.

Finally got my hands on one :) These are a rare car. Only made 3k of them from 91-92. Been searching for 3 years to find a stock and clean car. This car has been owned by 2 owners both over 8 years each. Stock paint too. Here is a little info. 2.0 (4G63) Turbo engine 195hp. It's AWD and all wheel steering.

I plan on some Volk or SSR wheels and Coilovers at first. Then I am going to start doing a restore job. Replacing parts that need replaced. Should be a nice car to play with.

Thinking of doing these in 18 8.5 and drop it on some BC coilovers.

    SSR:

or F14R from Forgestar in gun metal or flat black.

    6-4-2010:

Already started the restore process. Lots of work but a whole lot of fun :)

Working on the rear first. Lots of new parts and cleaning. Also cleaning up the rust. This is the hard part. Really isn't that bad. Got to get to work sanding the rust away!!!!

Ordered new swaybars for the rear and alot of new parts from mitsubishi.

    6-6-2010:

Got the rear end all apart. Sending all the parts to get sand plasted and then painted.

Got to get a new rear steering rack. This one is shot.

Next is to drop the drive shaft and have it rebuilt.

Dropped the gas tank to day. This thing was dirty!!!

    6-11-2010:

20 years of built up sand LOL

    Just some more images:

    6-15-2010

Got alot of parts back from the sand blaster: Dropped of the drive shaft and steering rack to be rebuild. Also dropped of the gas tank to be cleaned and powder coated.

Cleaned underside with simple green. Ready to paint!!!

Ordering new exhaust system. Turbo back.

    6-18-2010

More work done today. Sealed it the undercarriage. Tonight I will paint with rubberized undercoating.

    6-20-2010

    Finished spraying!!!

Brake rotors, pads and lines showed up.

Next week should be putting it all back together.

    6-28-2010

I got the fuel pump back. Man I am impressed with there work. They welded a new neck and cleaned it up.

    Before:

    After:

Got more parts back from the sand plaster. They turned out great.

    Rear bumper support:

    Rear end brakets powdercoated

    Heat sheild powdercoated

    Intercooler piping powdercoated

    Rear toe hooks powdercoated

    Fuel neck powdercoated

    Drive shaft before:

    Drive Shaft after:

    New parts!!!

    BC coilovers should up aslo!!!

Started to but this thing back together:

    Cleaning up all the bolts:

    Thanks for looking

Painted the rear brake calipers. These where replaced 1 year ago by the last owner. Just had some rust on them. So I treaded them today. Going to paint them tomorrow.

Should have the gas tank back tomorrow.

This was my old one. Just about 400hp at the wheels.

This is the rear steering pumb valve:

This is wheel wells before I painted them.

This is a picture showing the number build.

The rear bumper support showed up today from from the sand blaster.

The rear bumper support had alot of rust. There is a nice whole in it. Going to weld that now :)

Can't do anymore until the swaybars show up

Not a very detailed 'restoration' in my opinion. But I'm interested to see the outcome, and very glad it seems to be owned by a caring owner.

Update: Had sometime to work on her. Since my swaybars won't be here for a while. I got to working on the front of the car. Lots to do!!

Taking of front bumber, grill, headlights, Intake, intercooler and piping.

The guy had the front and rear bumber repainted and the body shop didn't do a good job. As you can see. I have all new intercooler and piping to go on.

Stock intercooling piping. My new one is powder coating black. Stock intercooler is shot aslo. Replacing that also.

Getting a new radiator and fan. This one is cracked.

More parts to get sand plasted and powder coated. Intake box and front bumper surport.

Valve cover has an oil leak. Ordered new gasket.

Former owner replaced turbo 5k ago. This is a TDO5 16g. Stock is TDO4 14b.

This is one of the intercooler pipes the former owner had on the car.

    More updates to come

Finish taking the intercooloer and fan off.

    Front bumper surport: Needs help.

Took the fan apart getting the frame sand plasted. Had some rust all over it.
