Hello from California with an 8G!

I've been lurking around here for a couple of months, and only decided to join today. I have to say this site has helped me so much with my car.

    And about my car...

I have a 1999 Galant ES Premium (which I found out through much digging on here) that I bought in September of this year. I feel so happy to have it, considering I drove a 1991 Mirage.

Now, this car has been through a lot. First off, it has 264k miles on it, which I've been trying to clean from the interior ;). Second, it has been heavily modified and tampered with by the previous owners, which has caused several gremlins inside. I might be asking about these more later on.

When I bought it, I thought it was a GTZ, because it had the trunk/spoiler and the front grill from one. After more digging, I learned it didn't have the side cladding, and white gauges, as well as the V6 or Infinity system.

I just yesterday determined it to be an ES Premium over a plain ES because it has a moonroof and HomeLink system installed, however.

I have a couple of questions for more seasoned experts:

    1. My car has the stock alloys, which I am not sure are original. Could they be, considering it's an ES Premium, or were they strictly a V6 option?

    2. Also, mine has leather seats, but I suspect they were transplanted because it has a power cord running from the seat straight to the battery, and 3 vinyl door panels have a later manufacturing date (one is cloth, and newer as well.) Were they available on mine?

If you've stuck around to read this long, I'll reward you with a picture ;)
This was taken shortly after I bought it.

Since then, I've cleared the corners and debadged the rear. I've also put in a 7G shifter and spray painted the gauge bezel, shifter bezel, and the radio bezel silver.

    Thanks for reading my post!!

Thanks! Right now, I'm not planning on any performance mods.... the 2.4 isn't exactly a gas sipper as it is! I'm concentrating on appearance for now. I'm trying to restore the interior to clean the miles and rattles off, and eventually install a carpc. Then I'll try modding the lights to paint the housing among other ideas.

according to my 1999 galant brochure, the GASLANT ES PREMIUM PACKAGE includes:

    Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
    15" aluminum-alloy wheels
    heated sideview mirrors
    Mitsuibishi Homelink Universal Transmitter
power glass sunroof with sliding sunshade
    rear-seat heater ducts
    dimming room lamp
security system with remote keyless entry system with panic feature
side impact air bag bag system
    wheel locks

leather seating was only available on the LS and GTZ

Ahh, then the seats were transplanted then. Mine has the above except ABS and wheel locks (probably long lost), but I thought the ABS was V6 only. The alarm key was lost long ago, I presume, but the system is apparently there, which I believe caused some problems.

    Thanks for the compliments guys!

Thanks again! While not completely noticeable, the paint is a lighter shade on the sides, though.

welcome! the wheels and seats could have been upgraded at the dealer. I know when my mom bought the car in 1999 (which is now obviously mine) she had the dealer install the GTZ spoiler, leather seats, etc.

Thanks! :) That's plausible, but based on my limited knowledge of its history, I'm pretty sure the seats were swapped by the owner. It has a power cable running straight to the battery for one. LOL. The spoiler is flat out swapped, as the VIN is mismatched ;p.

Welcome! Here's a link to all of the tutorials that helped me, so here you go:

    https://www.thegalantcenter.org/showthread.php?t=34654

It looks good... My car had some "gremlins" per say when I got it too... Apparently the previous owner wasn't skilled at installing audio. Nor did he know how to clean it either! Haha, so I feel ya. If you need anything, feel free to PM me

Thanks for the tutorials! A couple of them helped me a while ago, particularly clearing the corners. Yeah, the audio in my car was messed with. AFAIK the aftermarket speakers were left in together with the stock radio, and there were wires all over for an amp and maybe a sub. I've always liked the LED's on your car.... I might attempt that sometime!
