Just change the seals and you'll be good to go. Could be a misfire somewhere too?

Either a valve job or an engine rebuild. Oil may be leaking past the piston rings

how hard would it be to change the seals myself?
would it be good to get the head machined?

get used to oil consumption...even after you "fix" the problem

On my part, bought Valve Seals from Toga. Had to argue with the operator calling them Valve Covers.

Anyways, cost me less than valve jobs here. Had to change them myself.
