5 speed swap time coming - suggestions

    Hello TGC

I am finally getting around to finishing up my parts for the 5 speed. For those who have done it - What flywheel are you using? A few tuners around here say that lightweigh flywheels can play games with the knock sensor because they have had false readings in evos so im curious if anyone has had issues with em?

I have ordered an act 2100 for my setup and im thinking of getting an oem flywheel.

Also another question is what shifter cable bushings did you guys use? On ebay and speed sites they have the brass/aluminum ones for evos and 2g eclipse but im not sure what fits. Im not talking the bushings for the base but the ones that connect the cables to the tranny.

    Thanks for the assistance

I think there is a thread out there with a full parts list. If I find it, I'll post it.

i have not been able to find any bushings for the 3g only the 2g and evo 8+++

Thanks reiketsutsukigami i am gonna order a new one i appreciate the offer though.. You are running 20psi on a gt30r with stock internals?? Thats where i want to be next you get any knock counts that high? 18 gives me around 6 sometimes but the car seems to like high boost. 20 gave me 15 counts or so but i never bothered to tune it that high..

    nope :(
01galant01 and I tried the solenoid fix SPD_FRK suggested but that only threw more codes. I think the only way to get rid of the 5 CEL codes is to get the evo ecu in, which is what i plan on doing this month.

There is a difference between using a lighter flywheel and an aluminum flywheel. I had a fidanza flywheel when I was using the 3g tranny and it was LIGHT like 8 or 9lbs, the motor spun up really quick but also lost revs easily during slower shifts, It never played games with my knock sensor. With that being said, I now have an ACT XACT Streetlite flywheel thats chromoly and it weighs about 12 or 13lbs with my evo trans setup and I really like it. Chromoly is good too because its strong and you can re-surface the flywheel 2 times before you need to replace it. So essentially you will go thru 3 clutches before you need to replace the flywheel. Aluminum flywheels often have replaceable friction surfaces but they are like $100 each and sometimes are a PITA to swap out because the hardware gets stuck.
