i forgot to ask a main question also. Will an 04 or 05 tranny fit my 2002 galant? I have the vss speedo type and i found an 04 or 05 tranny with 34000 miles that i want to get but i cannot find a definitive answer to whether this will fit or not. Can any one chime in because the tranny is expensive and i want to be sure. Thanks

mechanical no, but it uses the hall effect off the lsd instead of how our sensors work for the auto, one sensor from the input shaft, and then another from the output shaft. You are an 02 so you won't have the connector for the eclipse speed sensor like the 99-01 galants already have, since they didn't have the vss system.
edit I get what you mean by mechanical now ha ha...

in the tutorial there is something about removing the pilot bearing - did you use the pilot bearing for your install? im assuming he just meant for the 2g clutch install.

if your using a 3g flywheel you don't have too, only if your using a 2g flywheel you remove it

I got a tranny off an 03 for very very cheap. The bellhousing is cracked and i have another tranny sitting so i am going to replace it with that. My question is - do i have to remove the transmission case to swap the bellhousing (clutch housing)? I dont want to remove it i dont have to..

there should be a couple of bolts inside the bellhousing that connect to the transmission case.you dont have to remove the transmission case to change the bellhousing.

you have to open the tranny.

Tip: open the black plug on the side of the tranny with a small hook or something sharp and then release the c-clip in there. Otherwise you'll never open it.

putting them back in. I put a smaller bolt in it with a nut in the other end and it works like a champ.. mitsu sucks

Dammit John.. I told you patience.. Took me 6 hours for that one bolt :P a pain it is and I hope to never change cables again. I would say that was the hardest part of the swap.

A Gearwrench from Lowes is like $11. Still a tedious job, but by no means should it take more than couple minutes.

When I couldn't get enough leverage to turn it, I just grabbed onto it with a plier.

the ACT 2100 clutch feels great! Shifting is very smooth in all gears (even reverse, thank god lol), and you don't have to put the clutch pedal to the floor either (guess my adjustment on my last clutch was off). Been running this clutch for a little over a year.

it is a pretty stiff clutch. i had it installed on my old 4 cyl when we swapped that to 5 spd. but it does grab great and is able to take some abuse.
