I did it to a couple of cars its fine as long as you are moving. It sucks when you have to parallel park or tight slow parking maneuvers.

yeap, I don't have power steering. It's not noticeable when you're cruising, but for parking, it kind of sucks. When you're doing some spirited driving, however, I find it beneficial, as you can REALLY tell when your tires are going to start slipping.

Be sure to loop the lines that went to the pump, on the steering rack. You want to keep fluid in the rack because it still creates a small amount of hydraulic force.

I've heard some people talking and I'm wondering if removing power steering makes you car more professional and more track-ready??

For autocross and circuit track time attack, I know both groups of people removing and not removing the power steering. Personally I feel that with a power steering it's easier to drive. What's the professional answer?

Removing P/S leaves one less thing to break....but if no p/s = professional, then Formula 1 = amateur

If you really really know what you're doing, power steering is still not considered wimpy. Why? because they know where the car is going to go. Now for newbs like me, I like to have a clear signal of when the tires or slipping (basically the steering wheel feels loose). I would say don't remove PS unless you have a pretty decent reason to.

If your really thinking about taking away the P/S you have at least some P/S oil that is still in there... and mount everything the inlet and outlet together with a hose like this.

This will help the rod from rusting on the inside and the remaining oil from getting out...

EDIT: The picture is from a starion w/o PS

    Try this

    Check fluid level
Check tension on belt, adjust if needed
Check belt, is it frayed or cracked? Replace it

and if you wanna know what feels like with P/S the remove the belt for a week and see how you like it, youll lose AC so now would be a good time to do it since its not hot out yet.

it's actually not the same. I tried driving down a hill with the car off, and it was pretty dang hard to turn the wheel. This is because you now also have to force all that fluid through the non-moving pump.

Here's how I'll describe having no PS:
standstill: almost impossible to move the wheel, unless you're on slick ground or have skinny tires, or you are just the buff-est mother f'er ever (I'm pretty small but strong I'd say)

0-10 mph: small amount of resistance/stiffness.
10-20 mph: a little less resistance
    20 mph + : feels like normal

this is all unless you're doing some crazy canyon runs and taking turns hard and fast. In that case, of course it will feel a lot tighter.

I would just replace the pump and call it good.

I use powersteering simply because the added pinpoint control is worth the measly 1-2 hp lost. Removing it just to race is foolish.
