Valve Cover

I dont have permission to see the marketplace so i have to post on here. i have a 96 galant es sohc 2.4L 4cyl auto and i need a new valve cover. i tried to replace the old gasket with a new one but it looked like someone glued the old gasket into the cover. if anyone can help me out i would appreciate it greatly.

so your just trying to take off the old gasket material and put the new gasket on?
use a razor blade to scrape it off, but be gentle, and put something over the head so you don't get that crap in the head and oil. hope this helps

Soak it in parts cleaner fluid (like in the parts washer) that should soften it. Then do the above....

If it's bad enough, try to burn it out with a torch. Note: ONLY do this as a last resort

my old gasket came out in pieces, it was that crusted. It took some cursing and razor blade = screwdriver to get it out,

noob mistake i snaped a bolt off tightening the valve cover. tried to use an easy out but snaped that off in the bolt. had to drill new hole. used sealent and tightened it down and put a clamp on the side i drilled out. no more oil leaking from the vavle cover but did realize i was leaking oil from distributor. replace the seal on it which cost $9 no more oil leaks.

that will do. next time just soak it..it will soften up the gasket. stock gasket literally get baked into the crevasse and thus become a bitch to get out.

I have one as well....it aint powder coated but its in good shape
