    Tick...Tick...Tick...Tick....

Yes, it sounds like a bomb!

There is a loud ticking noise coming from behind the dash on the passenger side. It is in constant increments much like the ticking of the turn signal. It is sooo LOUD!!

I managed to troubleshoot enough to find that it goes away when I push in the button for recycled air. When I turn the recycled air off, it starts ticking even if the fans are not on.

This is the wierdest and by far the most annoying thing that has ever happened with my car... any ideas?

the motor for the fresh air door or the fresh air door itself may be binding.
remove the lower panel on the pass side and shine a flashlight up and feel around, can you feel the tick?

yes, it IS the "fresh air/recirc" motor.
very common failure on these cars. Just go buy a new one, remove the glove box, and BAM! there it is. Its held in place with 3 screws.

piece of cake to replace if you have any mechanical knowledge whatsoever.

I've got this problem now on my 8g, but it's not from the passenger side, it's sounds like it's coming from the center vent by the windshield. Is this the same kind of part that i need? It only does it when the temp knob is all the way on the left, but I would still like to fix it

i had the same noise some time ago and realized that it was the alarm making the noise.. cause of my battery was dead/dying

Thanks for the tip, I just don't think it would be that because it only does it when my temperature knob is all the way to the left on cold, otherwise no noise
