I would think you could, i'm not sure. You'd have to check out info on the 4G Eclipse, as most parts will transfer over to the 9G.

I don't know of any build projects/threads where this has been done

mechanically im sure it is just as easy as the 8g, it can definately be done with the parts from a 3g/4g eclipse, however, the only problem i would foresee would be the ecu and the possibility of passing state inspections etc....

Yes I believe you can.
I've weighed this option and the big draw back was with the ECU, but apparently it's possible since hack unlocked our ECU.
You'd have to bolt up a 4G GT tranny..
This will cost you a lot of money though... was to much for me to invest.
