    Speakers

Hey, getting new speakers for the back of my 9g, and wondering if they are 3-way or 4-way? Or if the wiring enables to put 4-ways in if they are only 3-way?

When an aftermarket company refers to speaker as 2-way, 3-way etc. They mean the number of drivers (speakers) it has. A 3-way 6x9 will consist of a woofer cone for lows and lower mids (vocals), a tweeter for mids and mid-highs (electric guitar) and one high pitched tweeter just for highs (cymbals). 2-way will do the same job but just have one large tweeter for mid highs and highs and the woofer cone for the rest. Don't think the more "ways" the better. IMO anything higher than 3-way is just ridiculous and not worth the extra money. You can find a good 3 way set from a well known company like Infinity or Boston Acoustics for about $120. No special wiring needed just + and -. Some however will have an external crossover, for cleaner sound if you buy them new they will have Idiot-proof instructions or labels on how to connect but definitely not hard at all. Then there are component systems aka Separates, which are bit harder to install for a beginner but hands down the best sound quality over traditional coaxial speakers. Component systems offer separate tweeter from the mid range driver and an external crossover to send only highs to the tweeter and the rest to the mid-range driver, they also have higher power handling for addition of amplifiers.

You can put either 3-way or 4-way in there. The only difference is how many speakers are actually on the piece. 3 ways have the woofer cone and then 2 tweeters. Usually you will only get this with 6x9's. Forget 4 way's, it's a gimmick usually. If you're gonna get 3-ways make sure you get a good brand. Always check RMS for both your head unit and the speakers to make sure you get speakers that will match up to the power the head unit is sending. Wiring is pretty easy, plug and play. Just take the old ones out, connect the new ones, and connect the 2 wires or plug... done.

Effort and courage are not enough, without purpose and direction.
