Do IT!!! I will always own an 8g, for the age and cost it is indeed a very stylish car. Also you will learn so much from it and it will give you the confidence to work on your own car/cars.
I have had my 2002 since new (0 miles on delivery). It has over 150K miles on it now and still runs strong. I have done regular maintenance and have only had to change the shock/struts at 30K because the stock ones are garbage. I have done (or a mechanic) all the fluid changes, belts, hoses, and brakes on recommended schedule and it has paid off. The only problem with the 8G's are the PAINT. The stock paint and clear coat on these cars is absolutely garbage, especially on the darker colors. Every 8G I see has chalky clear coat and fading. I will be having mine painted ASAP. Other than a minor AC problem, the car has been reliable. Like a poster above said, I would be really worried about buying a used one because of past owners maintenance or lack there of.
