    Winter/daily car

I'm looking for a new daily as I don't want to drive my current galant in the crappy conditions winter brings and the terrible condition ny/pa keeps the roads around my area.

I am looking for an 8g galant (preferably a 4cyl, easier to work on imo)
    I am also considering:
    2002+ Tiburon 5spd
    2001+ Lancer 5spd
    1990-1999 Talon Tsi 5spd/auto

That being said, my first choice for another car is another galant and my price range is ~$1500, will go higher depending on condition of the car.

So, What do you guys think of this:

    (August 24th) - 2001 Mitsubishi Galant 4cyl

    (August 24th) - 2003 lancer rally $1200

    (August 26th) - 1999 Galant $1800

Get a 7g. You'll like it. That 8g could be an ok car bit I know that here in hicktown if it has rims it's usually owned by a younger person and most of the time they don't take care of them. Just do a really good inspection first. But I still say go with a 7g.

Stay away from those gen Tibrons, they're rather fickle...I have a few friends with them, always something wrong with them.

I may be a bit bias, but look for 99-05 Grand Am SE's, the four cylinders can be had with five speeds. The 99-01 had the 2.4L DOHC motor (LD9) is a decent motor, just known for timing chain and water pump issues past 100K (just replace all parts, and you're good to go) and the coils can be fickle, but easy to fix. The 02-05 had the 2.2L DOHC Ecetec (L61) and is a damn stout engine. No issues like the LD9 it replaced, more efficient coil pack, and extremely easy to work on. (top placed cartridge oil filter FTW!!) and if you ever decide to, the Ecotec has a stupid huge aftermarket, and takes very well to boost. :D just a heads up, they stopped making SE coupes after 02, Ecotec coupes can be found though.

my dad has a 2002 grand am se he wants to just give me.
No offense, but I do not want to be caught driving it lol.

You might say I'm anti GM. Their electronics just stop working after so many years and everything about them feels cheap.

I agree with you Keith. The GM cars have a very cheap feel to them. I hated the interior of my G6 and when we had the Trailblazer SS. I agree with Chris about the Tiburons. Garbage. lol I'd go with the 8g or Talon.

I'm not going to lie, I linked more what I thought was cool, than what is actually great for you in terms of DD, but they all seem like decent DD's, while still being a lot of fun.

O.o I've never had much of electronic issues with mine. None taken, these are unloved cars after all. lol I love my slow ass Grand Ma GT anyway.

But the G6 has cheap feeling interior bits (plasticy) my GA feels a lot more like...an interior. lol

Grab an old legacy or something if you want a winter car. I imagine PA has alot of snow. AWD in snow is always fun ;-)

Hells yea, Car stands out like a sore thumb, for a beater def worth the buy.
It's not gonna be a granny wagon either, a few bolt-ons will get it going decently for it's age and milage.

I wouldn't go with any other generation. Personally I think 8G is sharpest looking and wouldn't mind have a beater 8G and NICE 8G.

my girl loves hers and its a V6, honestly, other than I'm too big for the car, I'd rock it.

edit: we have had it for almost 4 years now

They're great cars, it's just the average shmuck doesn't have a clue on basic car care, and they don't take nicely to neglect.

Had mine for four years now as well, but getting bored of it...
