    1997 Oil lamp

Oil lamp starts to flicker. After some 15 miles driving.
    When running on idle.
Had this last 2 months. Oil level is fine in motor.
Idle speed like same as when just before problem.
Please give advise on how to find out if it is really low oil pressure or just a faulty sensor/wiring.
Just when you get stuck in traffic it does not feel good to watch that lamp.
    It's a Galant S 2.0
    Thanks

How many miles on the motor?

Usually the oil pressure sensor is on the Oil filter housing and it has one wire going to it.

I'll assume it's not an US made Galant since you say it's a 2.0 engine.

    Need more info!

MKO: Its a 4G63 engine SOHC.

Are u talkin about the oil level light or the oil pressure light? The pressure light flickering is a.common problem on the EU Galants. The sensor is probarly bad. Mine has also that problem. I removed the light bulb since i knowed that the pressure is fine :-P But i recomend u to change the oil pressure switch

    Well thats why i asked.

97 models in europe are 8g not 7g. the oil sensor is on the back of the block under the intake manifold.

its a very common problem for the US 4cyl 8g too

Oki, just realized there is on lamp for level and one for pressure ...
    Thanks ShiZnitH
My lamp is the one for pressure.
Is there one sensor for level and one for pressure ?
Since I've ordered sensor for pressure.
Little confused since the first dealer I called claimed the price for sensor was US $400
The one I ordered was US $15 ....
But I guess even if there is 2 different sensors no one should be crazy US $400
The guy was really stern, this was the price. When I tried to tell him he the price was a joke.
Think I'll loose that dealer for good ..

The location you say mko, it's for pressure sensor right ?

Should just be a oil pressure sensor...if you are low on oil it will trigger the oil pressure sensor.

Check the single wire to the oil pressure sensor on the oil filter housing...should be the same on all 4G motors. Sometimes the connector gets loose or the insulation becomes brittle and the copper wires get brittle soo and starts to loosen.

    Good Luck.

Sensor changed. Wasn't (as usual ) totally as simple as I expected.
The old sensor need a 26 mm socket. Best if it is with extended lenght.
I of course was missing 25 and 26 mm socket in my kit
I got lucky though. Managed with the 27 mm socket and nippers. But that was only due to that it did not need much force.
The new sensor was 24 mm socket. Worked ok but I will finish off tomorrow with the extended 24 mm socket I bought today.
If you want to do this. Be nice to yourself :
Buy 24 and 26 mm extended lenght socket.
Rent a doityourself car lift. Have to do it from under the car.
No lamp so far. So I think problem solved
Thanks all for support !! Love this forum.
