New to the world of Mitsubishi

Hey everyone, I'm Ben from Boise,ID just bought my first Mitsubishi, a 1999 Galant GTZ with 170k on her. I was recommended to this forum by my cousin, can't wait to start having some fun with my new galant!

Excellent recommendation by your cousin Lol. Welcome to tgc! We'd all like to see some pics of it. Hope the high mileage maintenance stuff has been taken care of.

go ahead and change the timing belt ASAP and water pump while ur at it. that stuff is due every 60K miles so it would be due at 180K. if the timing belt hasn't been done yet @ 60K or 120K, it is a ticking bomb, and if it breaks while u r driving it will cost thousands to repair the damage.

Thanks for the welcome guys! I did just get done changing the timing belt, the last time it had been changed was around 70k so definitely needed it. I didn't change the water pump, dealer here wanted 220 for it and was warned about aftermarket pumps, it was changed with the timing belt at 70k so I'm hoping it'll last. Hopefully that wasn't a mistake on my part!

    Welcome to TGC!

You should have done it while they were in there but I know times are tough, now when you want to get it done it's gonna cost you more in labor. Anyway I'd rather bust a water pump than a timing belt.

My old G had 171K on the original water pump, so you should be fine, but that's no guarantee. The belt got done, that's the big thing, keep an eye on it though.
