    tpms light

    My wife's 2010 has the tpms light on. I've checked the pressure and it didn't turn off. I checked to see if the sensors were still alive with a tpms tester and all 4 are good. My scan tool doesn't read the system so I can't reset it. I either have to upgrade my system tester to the $1200 one or my odb scanner to the $6000 unit. I don't want to do either. The ones I have work on most cars except the Galant.

    So my question is, will disconnecting the battery clear the monitoring system or am I investing in new expensive tools?

    Mine takes a few days to turn off after changing back to oem wheels in winter. Has the tpms been on for awhile?

    It's been on for a couple months now and won't turn off.

    You can try disconnecting the battery. Not sure if it will clear the tpms light.

    If its flashing its a sensor issue. Take it to the dealership.

    It's not flashing. Tested the sensors and they're fine. I just can't reset them. There's no dealer here anymore. Closest one is 3 hours away.

    My buddy's outlander had a tpms problem. He had the tires replaced and tire shop overtightened the valve and it cracked the sensor. They replaced it but tpms light still on. Tire shop tried to reset it but gave up. He brought it to dealership. They replaced sensor and reset it. Paid 200 buckss for everything.

    I think 9Ggts is onto something. I have had an error message in my Grand Cherokee for a year now. All sensors tested fine. Within last few months my left front tire has had a slow leak, got it taken care of yesterday and leak was caused by cracked sensor. Sensor was working fine and all as it alerted me to the leak.

    Took off the wheels, checked the sensors, no cracks. Prior to this the tire didn't leak. Brought the sensor in to have them checked again and they are fine. But I can't find anyone with a scan tool that can reset the system. Stupid system anyway. It's only there for wives and numbnuts that don't check their vehicles regularly. I'm tempted to pull the light out in the cluster.

    LMAO. This is true. very true. My error message comes up when 1st started and stays on a few min and then turns off or you can hit button on EVIC. I figured out a better way LOL. Since I remote start by the time I get out to my jeep message gone, problem solved hah

    The annoying part about the system is where I live the temperature changes cause the dumb light to come on. People come in the shop with the light on and they don't know what it's for. Too lazy to read an owners manual. They just think the car is gonna blow or something. . Try explaining to them that the cold weather compresses air in their tires. I hear all the time, "as soon as I drive a little it turns on but isn't on when I start the car." "Do you park in a heated garage?". "Well, of course I do", they say. Hmmm.

    The system is supposed get the dipsticks to pay attention to their tire pressure for safety reasons. But it doesn't help all the idiots. The other day I was pulling the leather seats out of an 06 Galant to put in my wife's car. I started pulling off the mud guards too and noticed why this car was wrecked. The tires were as bald as a porn star. BUT, for shit and giggles I tested the tire pressure. Guess what? They had perfect pressure and I bet the light wasn't on.

    Without getting hands directly on the vehicle this is the best I can give you straight from Mitsubishi;

    Customers of some affected vehicles may report the TPMS warning light is illuminated. You may find
    one or more of the subject DTCs recorded in TPMS receiver memory (two digit codes are for
    2004−2006 vehicles). The TPMS sensor may not be malfunctioning. Certain other factors must be
    considered prior to sensor replacement.
    These DTCs may set if the receiver does not receive TPMS sensor data normally. Some external
    electronic devices (mobile phone charger, GPS devices, iPod accessories, etc. ) transmit RF signals
    when connected to the 12 volt power outlet and interrupt the TPMS sensor signal. A wireless
    transmission facility or device using the same frequency as the transmitter may also cause signal
    interruption. Under these conditions, a DTC may be set and the TPMS light is illuminated.
    This TSB provides a repair procedure to correct this condition.
    AFFECTED VEHICLES
    2004−2011 Endeavor
    2006−2012 Galant
    2008−2012 Eclipse
    2008−2012 Eclipse Spyder
    PROCEDURE
    1. Unplug any aftermarket device from the 12V power outlet. If none are present or the customer claims
    one is not used, inquire if they regularly drive past a transmitter (radio or TV station, airport, military
    installation, etc).
    2. Using MUT−III, check for DTCs.
    3. Retrieve and record all tire pressure sensor IDs registered to the vehicle.
    4. Complete the Tire Pressure Sensor ID Registration” procedure as described in “Group 31 − Wheel
    and Tires” in the service manual.
    5. Compare the TPMS sensor IDs to those recorded in step 3. If the sensor IDs ARE NOT the same
    as what you recorded, it may indicate:
     a wheel exchanged with one from another vehicle.
     a sensor was replaced and the new part was not registered to the vehicle.
    Correcting DTCs described by these and other similar examples, are non−warrantable repairs.
    6. If the sensor IDs ARE the same as step 2, a brief signal interruption may have blocked the TPMS
    sensor signal.
    DO NOT REPLACE THE TPMS SENSOR OR RECEIVER. Proceed to step 7.
    7. Erase DTCs from the TPMS system. Return the vehicle to the customer and advise them to relocate
    or unplug any aftermarket devices that can cause radio frequency interference.
    8. Refer to TSB−11−31−001 for general TPMS service information.

    Huh, that's interesting. I can see how that may affect the system since it communicates with radio waves. It's still dumb though that it can affected, as every car has a cell phone charging in it at some point. Seems to be purposely done by Mitsubishi if you ask me.

    I think I'm just hosed. No way I'm driving 3 hours to a dealer to have them charge me an ass ton of money to tell me something I could've done myself if they just had made the stupid system like every other manufacture's cars. In the procedure book for my tpms diagnostic tool, almost all other car brands made it simple to diagnose and reset the system. Mitsubishi purposely made their's ridiculous so they get more money. It's not a system that will affect the drivability of the car so screw it. Pulling the the light tomorrow. :) / end rant.

    Believe me, Mitsubishi is not that difficult for the TPMS systems compared to some of the others I have been working on the last couple months.

    Like which one's? What I mean is I can't use the tool I have already and have to upgrade my software on my laptop. It's just annoying. Right now its not worth the upgrade since most cars I deal with can be diagnosed and reset with the tool I already have.

    I suppose if you don't have the dealer tools it may be difficult. I work at a Dodge/Mitsubishi dealership and I see a lot of different makes and models come in and heck even some of the Chrylser stuff is just as nit picky as Mitsubishi.

    Yeah, its not really worth the cost yet since its just for my own car. The Dodge dealer here was Mitsubishi too before the bailout forced all the local domestic dealerships to consolidate and/or kick outout the foreign makes. I wonder if Dodge can check for me? They've been kinda assholes lately though. They won't even carry or order DSM or any other models stuff that they have to get from Mitsubishi.

    They will need the MUT-III Scan tool to check the TPMS system unfortunately
