1993 Eclipse Engine in 1998 Galant

    Hi everyone,

My name is Matt, i'm 22 and live in The Netherlands (Moved here from the UK when I was 8)

I have a Question for you.

I have just bought a 1998 Galant after my 1993 Eclipse was murderd by an Audi,
and want to put the DOHC Eclipse Engine into the Galant.
is it just a Headswap or do i have to replace the whole block?

The NA engine from the Eclipse is in perfect working order, the vehicle itself is a write off sadly, but it does mean i have all parts available to do it.

    Kind Regards,
    Matt

Forgot to mention i looked through the forum and found a few bits of info but nothing that directly answerd my Q...
The Dutch Forums are useless aswell, they just like to put huge plastic bumpers on every vehicle they have, use a scaffolding pipe as an exhaust and put on an open Air Filter.

u can headswap it, or u can swap the entire engine, do a search for DOHC swap in the 7gsection and u should get info on doing either way

Just had a look in the 7GSection, i definatly have the 8thG
Could it be that the 8th came out in Europe earlier than the US?

the 8G came out in japan in 1996. the rest of the world got it around that time. the US got the 8G in 1999. but the USDM 8G's versus the JDM/wolrdspec 8G's are very different mechanically. they do not share engines, suspensions or drivetrains.

my Eclipse is the European one,

So is the Galant,. Both have the 4G63 Engine, only difference is the
SOHC on the Galant and the DOHC on the eclipse..

is there that much of a difference between the two?
feel like pulling both engines and swapping them,. after i've given the DOHC a good ol' tune up.

providing it will fit the Manual Gearbox.

It would help everyone more if you were to post pics of the engine that is currently in the galant.

    Good idea Keith
Picking the Galant up on Saturday,
After that i'll put up a few pics of both.

Might make it easier for all of us xD

If it happens,. al the info step by step will be going on here.
    inc wiring etc. the works.

lol depending on what engine is in the galant, will let us know how hard the swap/partial swap will be for you.

if you don't have the car yet, do you know what engine code the galant has?

you have a 1G eclipse. they were all made in the US through the Diamond Star Motors agreement between mitsubishi and chrysler.

the 1G eclipse engine and transmission are mounted opposite of the 8G galant (both USDM and worldspec); the 1G eclipse motor is on the left side with the transmission on the right side whereas the 8G is turned 180 degrees with the engine on the right side and the transmission on the left side... so even though they are both 4G63 engines, they are not compatible.

    1G eclipse 4g63 DOHC (non-turbo):

Thanks Reelax, that was the piece of info i was looking for,
The show is a no go then. Unless i can find out how to do a perfect
Headswap or both engine and transmission,
im not going to mess around and risk both engines.

Not in a financial position to do so sadly.

Keith, the dutch version of the DMV have every vehicle registerd in the NL in their database
From engine numbers to weight, auto or manual. Its all there, as long as you know where to look.

food for thought....u can always use an Evolution 8 head on the galant block and get a DOHC and also turbo it that way using EVO parts

Evo's arent the easiest things to find here in NL Sadly

I got my Galant last Saturday,. its pretty damn tidy.

Interior is seriously as good as new, shame the previous owner hasnt kept the exterior as good, almost every panel has a scratch or small dent. But that just gives me something to do seen as the Engine bay is Clean and Tidy aswell.

    Kind Regards,
    Matt

A clean, basic 8G to start with. Nice.

What did you have in mind? Denver's suggestions can be the start of a fun project.

    Sorry, who is Denver? xD

Atm i just want to fill and respray all the scratches & dents.
After that replace the grille for the more open styled one and find some alloys for dirt cheap.

I'm not into huge plastic body kits, i prefer the tuning where people look at the car, notice
its not stock anymore, but they cant think whats been done.

    Denver = QnzMostWanted

I don't like bodykits either, you could keep it OEM looking and get the VR4 front bumper, side skirts and rear bumper.

There were VR4 imported around Europe. They weren't sold new to most of the European market, since VR4's were RHD only.

Keep an eye on the classifieds on here once you've been here long enough (or get 50 posts) there's always JDM goodies popping up for sale.
