i tried that as well i can spin the rod all day, it does nothing.
the rod in the master has threads on each end, you loosen the lock nut that is on the back of that big thing that connects to the pedal then you turn the rod in or out depending on if you can or cant push in the slave with your thumb.i did it to my car, many 2gs and even 1gs with the z bar with success. PM me and ill give you my number so we can talk easier and address each issue right then and there and hopefully i can help.

im telling you that the rod is NOT threaded on the inside.
I hope you aren't a betting man. Under that big thing are threads and by threading that it changes the adjustment of the piston in the master. If you can't get enough adjustment it is the big thing as its not allowing any more adjustment if it is threaded all the way in and u can't push the slave. Get a piece from another slave that looks like the picture I'm gonna post in a little and that should help you.

Yea a picture would help cause i am completely lost now... The only adjustment on mine is the pedal height.
pedal height is not adjusted my the master cylinder that is by the pedal stop on the pedal assembly.
here is a pic with arrows i found of what you see under the dash
now here is the big thing at the end of the pedal and how you can adjust it
now here is how the end of my master is, it is not an oem master either but this thing seems to allow easier adjustment

yea 8g is different
anyway, i ordered a new master and slave cylinder so ill see if that fixes it, if not looks like ill have to bite the bullet and put a new clutch in.
The master you showed looks almost identical to my first master as it has that big thing and it is adjustable. I didn't say the 8g was exactly the same but those Are the same 2 things to adjust as that's how it works in any hydraulic clutch system
