    Carpet removal scuff plates

Seems like a simple question but scuff plates doesn't seem to want to come off. I pulled at it but decide to stop and ask... Are they held on by clips or glued? I don't want to break them. I have water coming in on the driver side against the firewall. Water is running out from the evaporator drain so it's not clogged. I assume there is a crack. Seems to be coming from the evaporator drain location and running down along the gas pedal bracket soaking into the carpets when the ac is on. I want to remove the carpet until a fix is rendered. Yes I'm new to this.....

They're clipped in. An interior trim removal kit would work great, but if you are like me you won't have that. I just used a flat head and some gentle pulling. It should pop out fairly easy if you apply leverage close to the clips.
