Battery IN the trunk

I was workin on a 370z hookin up subs and the amp. I popped the hood expectin to c a battery but its not there its in the trunk in the compartment where the spare tire is... Has anybody successfully installed their battery in the trunk? Any ideas on how It can be done?

Yeah, it can. I ran 0 gauge from the trunk to the starter.

That's better than a Cadillac STS, their battery was under the back seat. They have battery holders available, I suggest using one, you don't want your battery moving around and possibly tipping over on you (unless you use a leakproof AGM battery like an Optima or an XS Power or something, but you still want to secure it to something).

It isn't hard to do at all. You'll want a fuse or breaker in line close to the battery for safety. I put a 150A breaker just behind the outdoor outlet cover you see next to my battery in this photo. I can just flip that open and hit a button to disconnect my battery then flip a switch to turn it back on.



I got the breaker at a car audio store. I bought a spool of heavy gauge wire at NAPA for $50 or so and it ran the whole job plus a little extra. It was cheaper to buy the whole spool than it was to buy it by the foot.

The battery is in the right rear for two reasons. First is that the left front tire has the most weight on it so putting the battery in the right rear helps balance the car. The other is that it makes for a shorter wiring route.

we had a battery blow up in a caddy. thing still smells like bad eggs and its been 6 months!

Which is why its stupid to use an acid type battery when relocating. Cars like chrysler and bmw who have batteries in the trunk originally use maintenance free cells and have drains in the compartment. Like pictured only use a Gel type battery when relocating.

Use welding wire its like -2 gauge and it has a lot of strands, and a battery box from a marine store, along with a fuse from a marine store, gel cell works best, for some reason ive gone threw 2 optima batteries already i guess i have bad luck

where can i run the wire without it being seen? and id rather have my battery tucked somewhere alsoin stead of sittin in the open because eventually i will have a 15" subwoofer sittin in there....also in the charger under the hood theres a little bloc type thing where you can attatch the jumper cables any idea where i can get it or how I can make it?

The same way you would wire a powerwire to the back for a subwoofer
