Wiring for sidemarkers OFF w/ parking light on

Does anyone know if this can be done? Basically I want the sidemarkers to only come on when I signal, not when I turn on my lights. I'm also still curious as to what causes the sidemarkers to sometimes alternate with the front/rear signal and other times operate in sync with them...it's like it has a mind of its own :?
