    alternator query

hi everybody! i recently bought an oem alternator which came from 4g92 mivec engine. the socket looks like this form link...

socket has 4 pins. does anybody know if this can possibly work on the 7g?

ours has different socket like this

I just don't know if it can be rewired. TIA

I would probably try it but check voltage on initial startup . The two extra wires go to a newer ecu, iirc at least one wire from ecu is telling the alt to increase or decrease voltage. I have installed 4 wire alt in a 2 wire car but also rewired and used a newer ecu.

The wiring is easy. The 4 pin plug has two matching color wires with the two pin galant plug. Just connect these two and it will run. You can cap the other two off.

The biggest problem is the distance between the two mounting brackets. I've tried installing 8g I4 and V6 alternators on a 7g w/o success. Make sure the distance is the same before you buy anything. It may look like it will fit, but it actually could be pretty far from exact fit.

@w/oarctic7g- thanks for the response! i was wrong its not mivec engine. its 4g92a from mirage there in US. its gsr here in P.I. i just bought it cheap and dont want to mess up with my ecu. lol i will ask the electrician otherwise i will just sell it if it wont work.

@mko- thanks bro! thats good news for me that it can be done. wont the 2 wires affect the car? i mean will it not stall or not charge after a long while? my mechanic told me that the bracket can be modified. i just dont know how. before they installed alternator form a cefiro to a toyota.

The two wires provide a voltage reference for the ECU, other than that the alternator is internally regulated so it is its own unit.

so i'll just get a new male plug compatible with the new alt and just install the 2 wires and leave the two? thank you and btw your car is such an inspiration. i'm always reading your build thread.
