    No compression on cylinder 1 and 2, 3 and 4 low

    my car wouldn't start the other day :( it turned over but very violently and it threw a cam shaft and crankshaft sensor malfunction code.

    Long story short, after swapping out the cam shaft sensor with no luck I started to take apart the timing belt cover to get to the crankshaft sensor and I saw the balance shaft belt ripped up.

    I towed it to my mechanic, he replaced the balance shaft belt and timing etc but it still doddent start. He told me that it also needed head work cuz there was no compression on 1, and the other cylinders were low, in the 60's psi.

    I towed it back home, took it apart but the valves look like they hold water, the head gasket look ok, the top of the pistons look like they had black power on them like the bottom of an ash try.


    What could be the issue, is it possible my battery was low when the mechanic measured the compression?? My bat was dead when I towed it home from the mech btw.

    Should I take the cylinder head to a machine shop now that I have it out. or maybe take out the valves and give them a good cleaning and maybe change piston rings?

    I really want the car to work when I put it back together. But I dont see any obvious signs of damage caused from wrong timing.

    Did you actually pour water into the ports and let it sit to see if it holds?

    Yeah.. I tried it again with the sparkplug tight so there would be no leakage from the sparkplug hole, water stayed pooled up for over a min over the valves ... Not sure if I'm doing it right.

    I took out the valves to give them a good cleaning with a brass Dremel tip brush and I'm gonna take out the pistons tomorrow to see if there's any damage.


    Does anything look odd?

    You put water in the intake and exhaust ports, not the chamber. That said if nothing at all is coming through then they really shouldn't be the issue. You could've popped the head gasket out of some crazy fluke in timing. If the cylinders fired but there was no where for the pressure to go it could've blown a weak head gasket rather than bend a rod.

    Of course that brings up another point. Pull those rods out. Bent rods will do exactly this.

    Rods seem ok, but the rings felt loose and broke off easily when I took them out. Gonna clean everything up, new rings, head gasket etc..



    Also, I bent one of the sparkplug tubes when I took them out. Where can I get replacements?
