    Car shutting off on reverse

Ok so I am still new to this site but anyways my car shut off on reverse when backing out (1996 galant, automatic) just got a new used transmission with 120k miles. So when I back out or take to long to back out the car starts to shake and shuts off. Any ideas on what the problem is?

Last place to look is the ecu. I had a capacitor that went bad and caused the car to die in situations like this

Typically there is a vacuum leak that will cause the car to stall or shut off when reversing. You should be able to hear a vacuum leak from underhood. You may need to have someone else cycle through the gears while you listen for a vacuum leak. Either way you should have a vacuum diagram underhood to trace the vacuum lines to see if there are any damaged lines. If so, simply replace them and move to the next step.
