ECU Immobilizer Setting

I wasn't sure exactly where to post this. I want to install a remote car start on my 03 ES. I was reading I would have to buy an immobiler bypass module and put one key in it. I only have one key currently so I would be looking at paying for the module plus another key programmed through the dealer.

My friend has a 03 evo 8 and purchased the tactrix cable for tuning. He was able to disable the entire immobilizer system based on this post.

Is this possible on my 8G galant's ecu?

In short yes. But now anyone with a screwdriver and half a brain can start the car.

I believe the 02 and 03 ecu can be tuned. I've got an 02 that's been tuned with Evoscan and had the immobilizer disabled. The mechanic that did it said I don't need a bypass now to hook up a remote start and can just get a regular key cut at Walmart without having to worry about it needing programmed. Hope this helps and I'm sure smarter people than I will chime in.

To add to the remote starter side of it, if the immobilizer check is disabled you want need a bypass module, you just connect the alarm to the car and it will work, one of the reasons I really liked my 99's.

Thanks. Is it as straight forward to do as in the evo? Just plug up, download the rom currently in the ECU and flip the bit on the immobilizer part to 0, then reupload the rom back to the ECU?

Yes it's that easy but to read your rom u need the proper xml file to open up your rom in ecu flash. Notice u said evoscan and I said ecu flash. In ecu flash u can turn it off. Only for 02-03 galant.
