    Installing Fog lights?

I feel really dumb asking this, but I recently purchased some foglights and they arrived today. Yay, except they don't seem to fit...
So the hole in the bumper where the light sits is recessed in behind the bumper. Imagine, if you're not familiar, a paper cup with the bottom cut out and the skinnier end pointing in. Well the light I got fits in the hole fine, but theres a plate that's a little recessed from the light where you put screws in that can't attach to anything to mount it... So what gives? Did I get the wrong light or is there some way of mounting it I'm just not understanding?

you may have to make a custom bracket in order to get them secured to the bumper
    De que estamos hablando?

Post a picture of what you got.

Yeah, you might have to make a bracket or if it fits nice and snug you can adhesive it in the back. That's what I'm going to do with mine

I found a set on Amazon that looks like it mounts the way I need.
    http://www.amazon.com/GENUINE-MITSUB.../dp/B007VQU65K

    Mine look like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Mitsubishi-Ecl...ant+fog+lights

I'm pretty decent at DIY stuff, but to make a proper mount for this seems... difficult. Looking at the cap that's on there I realized I couldn't even really cut that up and get that to work unless I was also able to take the light apart and put the two together. Might work. The stock wires behind my bumper don't match up with the connector either though. I'd have to find a different adapter and wire that in too. If possible I'd rather just get a unit that's supposed to fit. I only paid $52 for my pair of lights though, so it might be more cost effect to modify. If I do end up doing it then I'll write up a tutorial for it.

    Here's some pictures.
These are the fog lights I got:

This is the original cover for the hole:

And this is an awful pic of the hole, which is honestly probably not that helpful:

    Here's the front bumper view:

Are you sure you have the right fog lights? The first link you posted is for the 9th gen Galant fogs, the second link you posted is for 8th gen Galant fogs.

Yeah I definitely don't have the right fog lights. The ones I bought were just a really good price and they were listed as being correct for my car. Unless I'm an idiot though I really haven't been able to find any fog lights that are right for my car (9g) besides that Amazon link I posted. I'm not really that interested in paying over 60 for fog lights though as they are really just cosmetic to me. I'm probably just SOoL though unless I wanna pay more is my guess.

I was going to make a custom mount, but am a little short after doing my lowering springs and shocks so I just returned them. Sort of a poor update to this, but it is what it is. Next time I buy foglights I'll get the ones with the proper mount even if they are hard to find/more expensive I guess.

Been looking more into this lately as I missed the opportunity to return these foglights...
Assuming I can make a custom mount for them (I'm certain I can), the pigtail that's stock wired on my car doesn't match up... so can I just get a pigtail that does fit and cut off the old one and solder a fitting one on and have it work?

Then comes the ability to turn them on... I'm guessing I need to buy something like this as well? https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...nid=434&jpid=0

From the panel to the right of my steering wheel it looks like the connections are there for it. I'm just asking before I get into this, because I'd hate to spend money and find out it doesn't work and I should have just bought the right lights.
If that is the case, should I just relist these on Ebay or something? Dunno if there's any demand for these lights in the world.

Bought the fog lights from the Amazon link. Trying to sell the old foglights now. It didn't seem worth the hassle.

The official talking to myself thread, but I called up the Local Mitsubishi Dealership near me and they looked up my vin in order to find parts for me. The guy told me my car is Canadian or has a Canadian trim package at least and they can get me the the American trim pieces, but they will be sold as is and cannot guarantee fitment. He said it's a difference of DJ1A (mine, Canadian) vs DJ0 (US). I was basically tasked to do my own research to find out if the US equivalent will fit and then I can just buy those. Any clues? I'm gonna do some googling today, but no clue where to start with this as its hard to find parts as is/

That second link you posted previously is the closest, and OEM considering the seller, based on the plastic cover you have. Is that the one you bought after the first pair (that you are selling)? And see if you can find out the bumper part number on your car currently, once you have that it should be easier to identify compatible parts.

The one I bought and am waiting to receive is: http://www.amazon.com/GENUINE-MITSUB.../dp/B007VQU65K

The one I'm selling is the one in the pictures I posted.

How do I find out the bumper part number? The Mitsubishi Dealership parts guy told me that the identifier for my"trim package" was the DJ1A number and that all he could order was the US equivalent which was DJ0, but the websites I'm looking at have no reference to those numbers. Everything I'm finding online is based off the Model (ES, SE, etc...) At this point I'm sorta just hoping the fog lights I ordered from Amazon will fit and I'm debating either just ordering the relay and the switch online (MitsubishiPartsWarehouse.com) or getting them from the dealership with what I'm finding and hoping they fit. I'm assuming once I find foglights that fit the bumper and the predone wiring then the switch and the relay should be more available (as in the same thing for multiple styles of that year)

In general most bumpers will have a part number on the inside or back which involves removing it. The VIN can only tell so much like trim package, engine/trans, and chassis codes only. I'm assuming that the new ones you ordered should work as they have the correct bracket mounts compared to the ones you are selling.

  16. #16
Yeah I'm hoping so. I'll have to hope on the relay and the switch too, but I really think that'll be less of a problem. If anything it's less money wasted then getting the wrong fog lights.

Wiring is pretty straight forward and will be easy. Good luck man and keep us updated! Might help a few others looking for similar answers too.

Yeah, hopefully this is successful. If it is I'll do a write up I guess for those interested in the future.

The new fog lights worked great. The Amazon package actually had everything in it (2 lights, 2 brackets, 2 Bulbs, the dash switch, and the relay!)

Installation: (Copied from my Amazon review)

This was a pleasant surprise. Buying this comes with everything you need to install fog lights in your car. I have a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant SE and it was VERY difficult tracking down the parts I needed. Most websites list the wrong fog lights, and unfortunately I ended up buying a pair before this that was not even close to working. Many sites list incompatible fog lights. I contacted the local dealership and after supplying them with my VIN was told my car was "Canadian" and the parts could not be guaranteed. If I chose to buy them I could not return them if they didn't work. On top of that they wanted $55 per light, plus $45 for the fog light switch, $7 for each bracket, and another $30 for the relay!
Enter this Amazon product. First off you get the lights, the brackets, the interior dash switch, a relay, and some screws +printed instructions. That's every thing you need except the wiring, and guess what? The car is prewired.

Install is so easy I literally did this entire job in 15 minutes in the dark after work with a flashlight. Instructions are a little dark so in case you're interested here's the steps:

    1) Under your front bumper remove the black plastic panel covering your access to the back of the front bumper (or don't if it doesn't exist my car actually had these pieces broke off, it's common)

    2) Unscrew the 3 screws surrounding the fog light hole covers and remove the covers. Get rid of the covers but KEEP THE SCREWS. Detach the fog light connector from the fog light covers.

    3) Insert the light into the bracket. It'll line up with the holes in the back of the bracket and clip in place but still be loose. Line up the two holes in the back of the bracket with the holes in the light and screw in the SUPPLIED screws to hold the light firmly to the bracket.

    4) Under the car again attach the bracket with the lights in them to the bumper with the 3 screws once used to attach the fog light hole cover. The passengers side is a little pain in the butt because there's less space to work in and the windshield washer fluid reservoir gets in the way of a full size screw driver on one side. The screws go in really easy if you are putting them in at the correct angle, so if you have a short screwdriver or one of those screwdrivers with the tip that removes and has both a phillips/flathead then you can just use that piece with your hands to easily tighten that screw down. After it's attached plug in the fog light connector to the light.

    5) Pop the hood and open the fuse box on the drivers side (next to the battery) and look at the fuse box cover. It will illustrate the direction of the front of the car and show you via pictures what each area is for and what fuse to use. Locate the fog light relay spot and plug in the relay (the little box with the 4 prongs on the bottom). Note that the relay has a little triangle and it should be facing you. In fact it should be next to an identical relay. You'll put this relay in right next to it the exact same way. The picture on the fuse box cover matches the picture on the switch so look for that one.

    6) Open the drivers door and remove the panel directly under the steering wheel. It should have 3 screws holding it in place on the bottom and then pop off on the top. Let it hang down as the hood release is attached to it and there's no reason to detach this unless you just want to do more work. Next you want to remove the panel that is a little above the removed panel and is to the left of the steering wheel. This area has your switch to control the brightness of your dash at night as well as two "empty" spaces with covers stuck in them. This piece pops out if you pull on it. Unplug the two connectors from the back of this panel. The blue one connects to the dash dimmer, the white one is plugged into a hole cover. Remove the hole cover that the white connector was attached to. Do this easily to taking a screwdriver and pushing in on the little tabs on each side until the cover is free and will slide out backwards ("push" the cover like its a button when free). Once it's out attach the new fog light switch in place. Mind that the tabs are different sizes so that the switch only clicks in one way. Plug the white connector into the fog light switch and the blue connector into the dimmer switch (I know that's weird because the back of the fog light switch is blue, go figure). Pop everything back in, replace the panels, screws, etc...

    7) Test it out. Turn on the car, the fog light switch should illuminate blue. Purdy... Flip on your lights and press the fog light switch. The fog lights should kick on. You will also see a green fog light light on your console showing you it's on. Go ahead and make your adjustments to the bulb angle . It's accessible with everything attached from the front. Just tighten or loosen the screw until it's set how you want.

Congratulations you've installed your fog lights for a fraction of what the dealership would change you. Enjoy
