is there a thermostat housing gasket?

4g64, my thermostat housing threads are messed up and I bought a replacement, I called Mitsubishi if there is a gasket between the housing and the head and they said there isn't one. I just wanted to double check here to see if there is one since I see a groove in the housing itself that would hold a triangular gasket. should I just use something like permatex gasket maker? or just bolt the sucker down without gaskets

I've always used gray silicone on that piece. You should get a new O-Ring on that water tube though.
