the 2.4, could it be the same?

sorry guys if this question gets asked a lot. Im a new member and all of my research has come up short! Is the 2.4 in my 01 Es automatic the same block as the 99 and below turbo charged eclipes. If so, it should not be to hard to upgrade to a turbo. Right??

the engine code isnt the same but im 90% sure you can use the turbo manifold off of it. there is a turbo FAQ a member made today. i will find the link and post it here for you.

No it is not the same. Our engines are turned 180 degress in the oposit direction if I am not mistaken.

Our 8G (1999 to 2003) are the same engines that are in the 2000 and newer Eclipse.

That maybe but the turbo from a 2G Eclipse will not fit a 8G Galant but a turbo from a 3G Eclipse will.

If that is true won't you also need custom piping then as well.

yah custom piping is a must... the down pipe from the turbo the lower intercooler piping and the piping from the IC to the TB

Whew ok where do I start. the Manifolds for the 1st and 2nd Gen Eclipse will fit. THe turbos will also fit. you just have to turn them around 180 degrees so that the inlet isn't running into the pulleys. Custom piping is a must. unless you get teh piping for the 3G Eclipse and I don't think that's been proven ut teh schematics are the same. it all started out as custm pipingand someome just figured a way to sell them in mass production.

The 1st and 2nd Gen engines aren't turned 180 in the opposite direction. the flow is the same but the parts are different. the intake manifold is on the passenger side and the pulleys are on the driver side. where as outs are reversed. the major diference is the fact that the older eclipses are a 2.0 DOHC and ours are a 2.4 SOHC.

After that thought It just hit me that the headr for the 1st and 2nd Gen Eclipse's will fit as well...... oh well I'll leave that to you guys to experiment.

But basically anything for the 1st and 2nd Geneclipse turbos will fit outs. I have heard a rumor that the 1st Gen Manifolds are better because the 2nd Gen are more prone to cracking.

The header might fit Laz but will it be tuned for the 4G64?

i read on the dsm boards that the 2g is better alot of the 1g's switch out for the 2g manifold the only problem is having to get adapter kits for some turbos

Definately not tuned but with enough money it could be done. I think with an afc and some other tuning tools it can be tuned but custom piping is gonna be needed. it won't be a straight bolt up like the Kamakazis or the RPWs

Actually the 2G's are better because they flow better and the manifolds can be welded unlike the 1G's. I am telling you once more the blocks are the same, stuff is just in different places, and of course ours is bored to 2.4. Same rods too, different pistons.
