JDM tails... German tails...? - hey German buddy...

It looks like the new German guy has the exact same tails that you guys are ordering from HK, or wherever it is...

I'm wondering what kind of bulbs the Germans use, and if they might be the same spec as the US bulbs...?

I really like those tails, but am not about to cut bigger holes, and silicone the damn sockets in to ge them to work...

If anyone from germany is reading this, do you think you could take a pic of the inside of your trunk where the tails are... or give me the measurements of the bulb openings...?

all of the tails ever made for the 8g galant have the same socket pattern, except for the US spec and the new taiwanese galant (the one with the clear on top)

Hey guys, here is what I know so far about the JDM Galant tail light bulbs. When you install them on your U.S. spec Galant, you will have to buy and wire in 2 new 1156 sockets and 1156 amber (whatever color you want really) bulbs which will fit perfectly into the signal sockets on the JDM Galant tails. The trick is finding the proper sockets for the other 3 holes, which are exactly the same as each other, on the JDM tails.

I contacted a fellow member, RoniN, and got some pics from him of the JDM tails and bulbs. Check these out:







The first and second pic is of a 3rd generation tail for the JDM Galant. The third pic is of the bulbs that the JDM tails use. The bulb on the right is an 1156 amber and the one on the left has not been positively ID'd, but I'm pretty sure that it is a 7440 wedge bulb. When I get my JDM tails, I will see if I can get a 7440 socket from an auto parts store and see if it will fit into the three holes on the JDM tails. If they do fit, you will need 6 of them and 6 7440 bulbs along with the 2 1156 sockets and bulbs, then with a little re-wiring there should be no need to modify the holes on the JDM tails.

If anyone thinks that the wedge bulb in the pic is something other than a 7440 bulb, then let me know.

the wiring is simple... i just added a 1156 socket and bulb to each side for my signals... i also tapped the brake positive wire over to where the old signal was. the hard part came from using the 3 US sockets. as u can see from ronin's pics (thanks again ronin and danj) the holes in the JDM set are not b big enough to fit the US 1157 and 1156 bulbs (w/ the exception of the new signal which is 1156 amber). so what i did was bore out the 3 holes to fit the us sockets then sealed them in w/ silicone. this is not very hard but danj has gone the extra step to find out what sockets and bulbs really fit; good work! i bought my tails w/o even knowing if they would fit the car and got lucky!

As Reelax said the wiring is VERY EASY! The hard part is making your US bulbs and harnesses fit in the JDM tails.

did u find out what size sockets we need ? and why do we need two more sockets when there are only 4 sockets instaed of 3.

i guess he mean 2 more sockets for both left and right side of the jdm spec tailight , total sockets are 8 for both side.

actually only one of the US socket will properly fit the jdm tails, you have to get 3 more for each side which are the same size. those three have to be rewired. I just want to know which sockets we can use.

Can someone please hurry up and get the sockets and go to a body shop or do it themselves and put the damn tails on their car so I can see what they look like when they are lit up. Im anxious I want to see how bright they are and how nice they look during the day. Thats why I love when Reelax or BGR get something put on. As soon as they post the topic they have the pictures to go right along with it.
I know some people are just getting their tail-lights but I know they're a lot more people who have had them for a while. So if you have the 3rd Gen tails stop messing around take pictures of it on your ride and post the pictures.

Thanks. The only thing I didn't do was the Spoiler pictures. I took pictures at every step of installation but when I finally had it installed, I was a little disappointed, so I never posted or created a tutorial. The pictures are saved on disk.

But back on topic - I'm not sure what everyone else is thinking but I'm just going to use that lower turn signal (in the 3rd Gen taillight) as decoration only. The outer 'brake' light will be the same as the outer brake light on my current 8G. Considering I NEVER get to see what my taillights look like when I'm driving at night, I can give a damn if the person behind me see's a flashing amber, clear or red light when I signal.

So, we currently have 3 lights. The JDM taillights has 4. IMHO, I think the 4th hole (turn signal) is optional, as I said above, we could just use the existing outer brake/turn signal connector.

BTW GalantT3, I think you had me misquoted (in another post). The 2002 taillights satisfied my need for Altezza's. The JDM taillights is something different all together and having the GB was bomb, so I couldn't pass this one up. I'll be selling my 2002 taillights to Jason (Outlawzcc) once I have the JDM's in place.

yes i agree with bgr u can use 3 lights instead of 4. all i did for now is made the holes bigger and then put in the bulbs into white circle is reverse, red rectangle is stop, and white line is the turn signal. I will add the 4th socket prob next week for the 4 light but for now this is good enought. But when u turn on your headlights u red rectangle and white line lit up, chibasack said he don't think it looks good but i love the way it looks i will post pic today.

That's why I said I would put the turn signal into the upper (outer) corner, instead of the clear area, because I knew the clear section would be lit up with the stock bulbs placed this way. I think having both bulbs on top to light the red area would look much better and just leave the lower section for decoration.
