wood trim pieces on the dash and armrests

OK, i'm wanting to change the color of the wood trim on the dash and armrests. I don't like that fake wood look and i'd like to change them black. Should i just go find one of those paint kits for it or go somewhere professional to get them done? How hard are those kits to do? Don't you have to prime it, paint it, and put some lacquer stuff on it? My friend did one and it looked nice til some punk started scratching it all up. I was peeling off and made it look bad. Guve me some suggestions out there if you've done this stuff before , appreciate it

Use quality automotive paint and you won't have a problem. You are asking for trouble if you use spray paint.
