New 2004 Galant 2.4l 160 hp..Can we upgrade our engine?

I was looking online about the new 2.4 l 2004 galant and it comes now with 160 hp vs our 140 hp.the enge is called (mivec) (variable controled) I was wondering if the engine base was the same and we could just upgrade the manifold to gain the mivec benefit with the extra 20 horses.Does anybody know a little more about the new 2004 galant to elaborate a little better to see if this type of upgrade is available.

    thanx Marco

All I know is "with enough money, anything is possible." Rather than spend 10k exploring a swap, I'd rather go forced induction though. Cause either way it's illegal in Texas, so I'd just go with the cheaper route for a gain of 20 hp.

rather than spend the 10 grand thats going to be needed to even attempt such a royal pain in the ass swap, why not just buy a new galant?

to my understanding, we have the MIVEC system in our 8th gen Galants, I know at least in my manual it says MIVEC, I got a 2003 LS Galant.

Not to sure what they put in the 2004 though, I am definitely interested to see what they came up with, probably less gas mileage and higher rpm

let me know if anyone finds any info on this..

We do not have MIVEC. We have INVECS II, which is the adaptive transmission program. Only the JDM cars and the 04 Galant 4 cyl have the MIVEC feature.

the new engines have such a high compression rate from the factory that its going be really hard to get more hp out of it. Turbo might be out of the question from what i hear, maybe a sds, but its going be very hard.

i saw a 2004 Galant at work yesterday (with california plates no less.. ) I thought they hadn't come out yet? Well anyway, the thing was the ugliest thing i've ever seen. The rims were a cool design, but waaay too small.

What's the compression? Unless it's somewhere around 12:1, forced induction is not impossible. You can always get more power out of an engine, sometimes you just have to get a little creative. Who would have ever thought that opening valves differently at higher RPM's would produce massive horsepower gains?

The big concern is why on earth do a swap for 20 bhp ???? Thats borderline insane.. If your serious about doing a motor swap which I doubt you would research about importing a JDM mivec 1.8 all the way up to the 3.0L versions. Hell there is a 3.0L Mivec in florida already Come up with 4g's and its yours.

Please dont pm or ask whats the specs on the mivec because they will get deleted do research

i don't know if this will effect us in the States but in Australia a guy did a complete engine swap on a mirage for the MiVEC engine. If the chassis is any bit the same where the engine mounts are then they'll bolt straight it. I'm guessing though that you'd have to do a little modifying to get it in. I've only had my Galant for 3 months but if they use the same chassis for the in4 as with the v6 then why not wait til the v6 comes out and put that in instead of a MIVEC in4.

    Nice...

Yah that 230 HP V6 sounds tasty...I'd love to do that engine swap...

Just gotta wait till those '04 GTS's come out...and hopefully get one from a junkyard =P
