    How to turn off Daytime running lights?

    I've been happy with the performance of the MIVEC engine except for the throttle by wire. This system creates a little lag everytime I floor it(It's all computer sensored and controlled). Although they say that this system improves fuel economy and improves the overall performance.

    Also, does any body know if there's a way to stop the daytime running lights. I tried taking out the fuse but it still on. I'm guessing its directly connected to the ignition. Well I have an HID convertion and this needs enough voltage to work and the daytime voltage is not enough to power it up. When the engine is hot, it seems ok but everytime I start the car to warm up, the daytime running lights are causing one of the lights to flash just like a stobe light. I tried putting another bulb(1157) in each sides to act a resistor but it didn't work. Does anybody know what kind or spec of a resistor I can connect to lower the amprage of the daytime running lights yet not too much to also affect the voltage of the headlight when the switch is on.

    My lumina had DRL...I couldnt get them off either. Maybe you need to hook up an external switch for the HID system.

    how about just str8 up cutting off the power to the daytime running lights? meaning simply, disconnect the wiring going to the bulb?

    No I couldnt do that cause theres only one wire for daytime running lights and headlights and both go strait to the computer. The HID works fine when the engine is hot and turns off when i turn off the headlight switch, just when its warming up the flashing occurs. Ill try out some resistors but don't know anything about them so...

    most cars you can shut off the running lights by pulling up the e-brake. First pull up the ebrake check to see if there off......if not put it back down and pull the brake up n down with the car running.

    No sir, it did not turn off. I'll keep on trying many things till i can figure out something.

    maybe this is a stupid idea, but couldn't you just call mitsu dealer parts dept and ask what the DRL is attached to---

    I'm assuming that you mean when the HIDs are warming up, I would think this is normal since it will take them some time (maybe 30s to 1 min?) to reach full intensity...arc discharge isn't as fast as halogen filled (filament) bulbs when it comes to this. But if its flashing on and off, then I don't know

    Well because i couldn't find a way to turn the daytime running lights, ive decided to hook up the headlight wires to the foglight and i'll use the foglight wire for the HID. The HId only uses 35w so im not too worried about burning up the wires. Now if it gets stolen at night, the thief would have a hard time trying to find out how to turn on the head lights(unless the thief is reading this thread).

    I got a HID kid on my ES and I called up Mitsu and they said "it just simply cannot be removed, it's a safety feature..." and I was like yea safety, so when I fly down the road doing 90 in a 35 my DRLs will tell pedestrians to get out of my way, sure... anyways... Don't let the HIDs run on your DRLs whatever you do, they use 50% power and HIDs need the full 100% power to light and stay light... like you said, they will flash like a strobe, but not for long... after a little bit of flashing, your starter will be killed... which is not cool... What I did to keep them in my headlights, I just leave my headlight switch "ON" all the times. When I start the car, the headlights are ON at 100% power so the HIDs work... and I figured it doesn't matter to leave the lights on anyways, since I would've had DRLs anyways with halogen....so what's wrong with DRLs with HIDs? at least they look nicer and can still be noticed during the daytime, now I'm turning other 04 Galant owners' heads 24 hrs a day! and also, like most other cars on the market, if you turn your car off and remove the ignition key (and open the door), you're headlights will automatically be turned off if they were left "ON". So when you get out of your car, they turn off... bada-bing! Also, since the Galants have Hi/Lo bulbs, I don't know about you're HID kid, but mine is just low beam, I don't have a Hi/Lo bulb, so when I flick on my high beams, the HIDs just turn off and just my corner lights stay on... So when I don't feel like it's necessary to keep them on while driving, or if I'm parked or idling, I just flick on my brights and they magically turn off... so that's my trick to keep them in the headlamps instead of the fogs... Now that I have them on top, I'm going to install them into the foglights next... check out my HIDs installed at: members.cardomain.com/paesano

    Dam! never thought of that... Although I like my new setup. I think it looks better when I have the fogs on all the with the parking lights. I don't think cops would stop me now for having white/blue lights on the fogs(hope not :x ). Well gotta lay low. One more point and I'm suspended and my partime/only work is to drive kids.

    why would you want too?
    although technically, you cant. You COULD go to the trouble of hacking wires, but the circuit only runs at 80 percent of max luminesence as the headlight relays are duty cycled by the front ECU.

    basically, dont bother.
    but really, they ARE there for a reason. they work.

    hid kits on ebay will run you $300+.

    i have hids in my de 9g and i hook my power wire to the high beam so when i turn the lights on have to hit the high beam switch and no daytime runing lights on there tied into the low beam so no cutting involed inspection time put a standard 9007 in pass take them out again not gettoing up wires

    Did that the first time but decided that Im gonna be using my high beams alot on winter time so i just hooked it up to my factory foglights.

    sure i thought they were separate bulbs....dont do hid kits plug straight to the battery and are triggered by a relay thats hooked up to the headlamps wire?

    9G Galants don't come with factory HIDs. I bought mine from ebay. Its the mculah(or something like that) that you can just plug in your stock wiring harness. I did that until I realized that the HID bulbs were flashing like a strobe light because of the DRL so I just hooked them up to my fogs and vice versa.
