    8G Auto to Manual Conversion DONE! **UPDATED 02/03/06**

    Well it’s my time, after long considerations of whether to do the swap or not I have decided to convert to a 5 speed transmission. I will update this thread and make a detailed tutorial as I move along. So let’s begin…

    Part 1: The Arrival
    After waiting for a week for the junkyard to send this out I finally got it today. In the box came stock flywheel, clutch, master/slave clutch cylinders, clutch/break pedals, 2 shifter assemblies and a lot of bolts.

    I'm going to try to install the pedals and the master/slave cylinders this Friday if the weather permits it, as for the actual conversion will take place on Janury 7th.

    Part 2: Pedals & Master/Slave Clutch Cylinders
    Everythis is still on schedule and I have finished installing clutch and break pedals.

    Things would have moved a lot quicker except that I had to relocate my 4AWG cable for the system. Dam install guy picked a great spot to run it.

    We had to dremel out the master cylinder plate and everything fit like a glove.

    Part 2.5: Optional/Required parts obtained for the install

    ===============REQUIRED PARTS=====================
    3G TRANSMISSION: $764 - JUNK

    =================================================
    LABOR, OILCHANGE, COFFEE $360
    ===============GRAND TOTAL FOR THE SWAP=======$2303

    GOLDEN RULE OF THE JOB IS: GET ALL THE PARTS BEFORE YOU START

    Part 3: The Job

    TAKE APART YOUR CENTER CONSOLE, WHICH IS 7 SCREWS TOTAL (2 BEHIND THE ASH TRAY CONSOLE)

    UNCLIP THE KEY LOCK CABLE, PUSH THE INNER ROD IN AS MUCH AS NEEDED, BEND THE REMAINDER AND ELECTRIC TAPE IT.

    REMOVE THE AIR INTAKE, REMOVE THE BATTERY

    REMOVE THE BATTERY TRAY

    UNPLUG ALL THE HARNESSES/GROUND CABLE, REMOVE SHIFTER CABLE, DISCONNECT TRANNY COLLER LINES

    DRAIN OLD TRANNY OIL

    REMOVE THE OLD FLEX PLATE

    REMOVE THE STARTER PLATE TO TAKE OUT THE STARTER

    REMOVE THE STARTER

    IF USING A 2G FLYWHEEL REMOVE THE PILOT BEARING

    PUT THE STARTER PLATE BACK AND ATTACH THE FLYWHEEL (USE THREADLOCK FOR THE BOLTS) IF USIN A 2G FLYWHEEL THEN THROUGH OUT THE 2 FLYWHEEL WASHERS

    ATTACH THE FLYWHEEL WITH THE PRESURE PLATE

    REMOVE THE SPEEDSENSOR CONVERSION HARNESS

    REMOVE THE BOLT THAT ON THE RIGHT, CUT THEN DRILL THE BOLT THATS ON THE LEFT

    INSTALL THE TRANSMISSION AND WATCH IT FIT

    IF USING A 2G FLYWHEEL THEN INSTALL THE NEW STARTER SPACED OFF BY A 1/8" WASHER PER BOLT

    IF YOUR OIL COVER IS DAMAGED DURING SHIPPING GET A NEW COVER/LIQUID GASKET - ONLY AT DEALER

    ASSEMBLE THE CENTER CONSOLE

    RUN THE CLUTCH LINE

    CONNECT THE SHIFTER CABLES

    SHORT OUT PIN 9+10 ON THE BLACK HARNESS TO START THE CAR.

    CONNECT PIN 7+8 ON THE BLACK HARNESS TO REVERSE LIGHTS SELENOID

    NOW GET ALL THE FLUIDS IN AND TAKE A DRIVE 8)

    NOTES
    USE 2.5-3 QUARTS OF GEAR LUBE
    CONNECT THE GROUND CABLE BACK TO THE TRANSMISSION
    DO NOT CUT ANY HARNESSES

    COMPATIBILITY
    1999-2000: NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NO PROBLEM
    2001: REQUIRES A 2000 AUTO ECU/IMMOBILIZER WHICH YOU NEED TO GET REINITIALIZED AT THE DEALER IN ORDER TO GET RID OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
    2002-2003: SPEED SENSOR REWIRING IS REQUIRED, STILL UNABLE TO GET RID OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

    2002 ECU IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 2001, 2000, 1999 ECUS.

    ALL MY RESEARCH

    This is "How to Adjust your Clutch Pedal"

    I want to thank Brian(Stewi), Dustin(theblackpearl), Jason(mrjaydeeone)and Anthony(not a member of this board) for helping me with this job. Thank You Guys! :thumbsup:

    Yo, i just bought a garage heater, so if you wanna come down and help with my swap then when done we can do yours in my garage. Gotta have all ya parts together though, we do wanna get this done in less than 8 hrs.
    I suggest to at least start with the small stuff. Put in ya clutch pedal and master.

    Not how fast your car goes but how good u drive going fast.
