    Maaco Paint Job

Arite so I got my car painted at maaco and it came out actually pretty damn nice, but now when I go around teh car to quick detail it or something it seems to scratch real easily, anyone know what could cause this, was it a shit job or something, maybe ipaintu could help cause I know you paint at a Maaco.

I went to get an estimate from maaco they wanted 900 to paint the whole car, they even "Allegedly" said they would put 4 coats of base and 3 coats of clear which sounded good until i ask them if they compound the car after they paint it and they said no, and i walked out.

Did they tell you what kinda paint they used?

How long did you wait to detail the car after it was painted?

Need some paint or bodywork done in Chicagoland or NW Indiana???.. http://www.alsautobodyexperts.com/

They tell you not to power wash or use soap for about 6 weeks. Thats where I took mine the first time and I never had that kind of problem. They have quite a nice warrenty on their paint, take it to them and explain whats happening and see what they can do.

OK If you got the 1/2/4 yr warranty paint jobs you didnt get a clear coat , If you got the 4 yr warranty then you should have gotten the Intergraded clear coat. Which means they add some clear coat into your last coat.
Now, if you didnt wait for aleast 30+ days to do all this then you should have. It takes 30 days + if the weather outside is really cold to CURE. It doesnt hurt the car in the curing stage to get dirty. The car should have been washed lighty with a soft cloth till cured. The once its 30 days or better you could have waxed it and more. If you want just wait 30 days and have the areas buffed some. You shouldnt have to buff that hard or maybe even WAX will bring out the scratches. You should be ok tho just dont rubb it hard for a bit. Now if you got the base clear then you can wash or wax or buff at anytime. If you or anyone washes thier car NEVER use DISH SOAPS it strips your cars protectors and kills paints.

Now on the wetsand and buff. We do it if you pay for it. If not your on your own... It cost about 300 to do that type job. I do them for a custom shop on weekends and some nights and it can go as high as 500.00 to cut and buff a car... Show car will run you about 750.00.... YES 750.00 to cut and buff a car. which takes me a week or more to do.....

God luck if any more help needed holla..

    Thanks...

You really don't need to sand it if you're going back to the same color do you? I've thought about a Maaco paint job myself. Just wasn't sure about how good they were.

Yes you have to sand it so the new paint/primer has something to adhere to. Its the same with painting anything else, you always want to scuff it up a little before applying paint, the scratches from sanding give the paint something to "grab" onto.

As for the paint scratching easily, I dont know. Im an insurance adjuster, im in a body shop 8 hours a day, all the cars they paint, they bake in the booth for about 45 mins and when they come out they get a light wetsand and compound polish and they are good to go, nothing about not getting the car wet or anything, they take the car right across the street and have it washed and detailed before delivery to the customer. Maybe its a poor quality paint, the shop im at uses Spies/Hecker, its very expensive, but its very good.

this is true stewi on Base Clear paints. But Most people get the lower paints at Maaco which is a Single Stage paint." Urethane, Acrylic" Which we also bake for 20/40 mins and sit out to chill. Now if you dont get the b/c paints then no you cant WAX for 30 days.. Wax seals the top layer of the paint so brething isnt allowed. The single stage paints need to brethe for aleast 30 days to Cure.

Now our base clears we also wetsand and buff the next day. Then off to detail as you said. But that paint starts at 1200.00 So when you come in and only pay 349.00 or so what would you want?

I would want the nicer paint, but thats just me. Your a painter so you know, but most people love to skimp on a paintjob, they have no idea why a good job costs soo much.

if i was in the look out for a paintjob and I wasnt in the shop. I would pay aleast 4000.00 or I know i would be getting less than I should.

I know what a nice paint job cost but alot CANT spend that. Hell a true base clear costs half or in some cases more than ones car is worth..

If I went to Maaco, and got the cheapest paint job you have to offer and I simply just took good care of the car for a few months, like made sure it never saw the rain, etc., would I be OK? I would like to paint my car in the summer, but I really REALLY don't have a lot of money to dump into just that. I know I get what I pay for, but for $350 I should get something decent.

From your experience, how good is that cheapest paint job you offer?
