I painted mine a few years back, it was very easy to do.

The 03's don't look like that. The bezel is all open and the gauges are a green color.

You can buy a bezel on ebay, or look for a 99-01 gauge cluster.

Cut little notches into the back of the gauge cluster where the wires should run...

I'll try that. What would you recommend to cut the notches out. It is pretty thin plastic.

ok this is what it looks like... so if i were to paint the "ugly blue" would i have to over up the # or is that bezel just an overlay?

You should take the whole thing out as pictured above. Its not that hard then sand, prime, paint. Or you can get that special plasctic paint or get a simple overlay

The blue piece would be extremely hard to paint, as all the gauges and indicators are integrated into it. There is also nothing behind the blue piece aside from the mechanical gauge parts.

The best thing to do is to either switch to a 99-01 cluster, or get custom gauge faces+bezel to cover up the blue.

will the 99-01 cluster fit without prob's?

I just picked one up on ebay for $20.50 shipped. Make sure you look around a bit before buying one because most of the ones I found were $50 + shipping and up. Remember millage doesn't matter because you will have to swap your odometer into the new cluster.
