    Painting wheels, anyone tried it?

Well I fought myself a set of wheels but they dont come in the finish I want. Has anyone painted their wheels before and if so does the paint show well, has it chipped or dulled, and does it look rough? I plan on getting a set of Konig Imagine in the Opal color and painting them, the only other color aviliable is gloss black, but that won't look to good since I have a silver Galant. Here is what they look like http://www.wheelspecs.com/specs/wheelmodels/490

you could take them to a shop and get them powder coated the color you want. That's what i would suggest.

I stated a tread when i was planning to paint my rims.

Do a search for "Painting Rims"

I had some old steel wheels that I painted silver and black. It can be done just make sure you cover the area around the wheel for overspray. I painted those wheels one side at a time, didn't look that bad afterwards. Make sure the wheel is clean and free from debris and if necessary have the wheel sandblasted or mediablasted.

However like Kalamidad has already said for the best quality job have a professional shop powdercoat the wheels that will give the best finish by far, well unless your a good painter.

Powdercoating isn't necessary....and overkill if you ask me. You should get them done by a shop. What they'll do is go over them with sand paper, to get a good base to stick primer. Then they'll prime, and then do your color coat. Finished with 3-4 coats of clear and you'll have some nice rims. Powedercoating may be tough, but it'll cost you a shit load.

i painted mine with wheel paint from duplicolor. gunmetal...

i was thinking about redoing them and adding more layers and more clearcoat for a better, deeper look.

with my hub caps flying off every which direction, I went ahead and refinished the steel wheels in silver.

Autozone duplicolor primer and paint, 300 grit sand paper, loads of masking tape and a heap of patience. After doing 1 wheel a weekend and a snow storm and rain inbetween, I finally got the project finished two weeks ago.

IMHO they look better than the stock hub caps but do not compare to aftermarket rims since they are only 15"s and riding on stock height...

Powdercoating would look really sweet but you have to factor in cost of the rims youre using.

    good luck
