Don't think this is right...fuel related

I just got 27.338 (rounded) miles per gallon this time, so I'm suspecting I'm running dangerously lean. Thing is my exhaust still smells the same, I had my air/fuel read at 14.7 same as before .92v and I floored it going from a dead stop to 90 mph and no popping of any kind, smooth as silk. Think I should be concerned? 27 is a bit high for a V6 doing mostly city driving don't you think? Usually I get 22 to 23...

That definitely doesn't sound right even if you don't floor it and only on highway roads without traffic. I know before my headers with downpipe, I was getting between 230-270 miles per tank full; now with the headers I get around 160-200 miles per tank full. I think stock V8's get better mileage than me, lol. The price of performance... oh well. And I haven't even put in my rising rate FPR yet. Good thing we are not having a gas crisis.

provided you havent altered the OBD programming (which is difficult and senseless anyway), if the car was running lean it would trigger a "check engine" light.
so if you dont have one, dont worry about it. the emission system is WAY too smart on these cars. an exhaust manifold or intake manifold swap isnt going to do anything.

If we only had what BMW's have, a mileage calculator built in to the car, then you'll know for sure.

Better yet...the dash should brand the mileage onto my hands as I drive...no pain no gain After reading Manybrews' post and hearing the price of diagnosis I'll just stick this one out

No wonder I've been able to drive 580 miles on a tank! 8)

its probably nothing more than a different volatility level to the gasoline your using.. its changed quite often, to follow the seasons.
winter gas is more volitale than summer to compensate for the colder temperatures. this DOES effect drivability and it DOES effect milage.
seriously, dont worry about it. the car is much smarter than you think it is.
if you made it run lean (or rich), it would know it (provided you havent disconnected the check engine light, or something like that)
