    Heat shield question.

Ok well when i first got the car running properly i noticed that the heatshield right below the exhaust manifold was rattling so i ripped the bitch off and cut the clamps off with a dremel. Now the heat shield that shields the resonator ( i believe thats what it is) the one mounted right under gear shifter on the chassis.... and the heatshiled below the gastank are rattling.. I dont know of any way to get the heatshiled off above the resonator because it seems that the whole exhaust would have to be off in order to do that. I can take the one below the gas tank off but... i dont know if thats a good idea.. Any suggestions???

use a pipe clamp (ones like couplers have) and just attach it to the pipe.

    Not a bad idea.
I might have to do that also.

I used a metal coat hanger for one part but now other parts are rattling.
I was even thinking of ripping the whole thing off.
Ill use the clamps for now until I get the new exhaust.

there are only a few bolts holding it on.
it will be difficult to get to them, but not impossible.
i planned to take mine off for weight savings.
i also removed the one above the muffler.
you'll save about 15-20 lbs tops by removing all of the heatsheilding.

What? No way all that thin metal weighs 15-20lbs haha.

But the heatshield above the pipe is bolted on with a few 10mm bolts.

20 lbs was on overestimate. my bad.
but if you take off every heatshied from the manifodl to the muffler.
its gotta weigh at least 15.
i took off the sheild over my muffler and it had to weigh 5 lbs by itself.

So basically its safe to take the heatshield below the gas tank off? Because these things make my car sound like its about to roll over and die. BTW DOHC if you really really need those bulbs ill go see what i can do because there is like 4 Radio Shacks not too far from me.. Ill call them today and see what I can come up with.

so long as you don't have any exhaust leaks its not going to be an issue.
even so, the exhaust that far back in the system is a few hundred degrees cooler than it is at the manifold.

    talking 4-500 degrees cooler.

and since when the exhaust is hottest(under load at higher rpms) you will be moving pretty fast,
the air circulation will prevent temperatures from getting dangerous under there.

With removing the heat shield completely, would the floor inside the car get hot?

I remember mentioning that I was gonna take the whole off and they said that the heat will be hitting the floor inside the vehicle.

I have removed all of my heatshields for the exhaust. I didnt remove the heatshield on the gas tank as it doesnt make any noise, and frankly I didnt even know there was a heatshield there

Only heatshield I may put on, is one to cover my exhaust manifold as I dont want to melt my radiator fans. Or Id rather get a tubular exhaust manifold and use cool heatwrap
