why dont you gat a piece of plexi and frost out "IPOD" with a dremel sanding or better yet rout it kind of got what your trying to do but some actual pics would be better are you fiberglassing it into the area of the ash tray to make it fit or are you going to cut a hole below it and rig the adapter through a hole?

I've got one I'm working on, but I used an old CD drive from my computer, dissassembled it and ran a 5v source to the open/close motor. I've got to make a CF/FG mold to fit in the CD tray, and build a iPod patch chord into the one end that will connect/disconnect when the iPod is inserted and the CD tray is closed. I plan on putting it in the glove box and patching everything into a new Clarion 7" setup to run the iPod. It's actually very simple, but your design looks good too. Do you think there is room for a CD tray (about 1 inch by 5 inches when disasembled to the bare guts) to fit behind there?

This is a great idea. I'm in the market to get an iPod soon, and was wondering how to mount it and at the same time hide it from plan view. Since Alpine makes a cable that connects to both my deck and the iPod, it makes for a clean install. Keep up with the pic updates, I may have to get one made too!

hey guyz...yea sorry bout the pix i took em on my razr. But yea i finished the install and it looks pretty nice i'll post pix in the next 24hrs. i just used a piece of wood measured my ipod cut the hole with this tool i got... "rotozip" and then just work on the size to fit the ash tray. Whats kool is at night theres a light that beams directly on it and it looks pretty sick. I used black velet which u can get anywhere craftstore etc. and i cut the shape in the back so the ipod wire would fit nice. Any questions either PM me or reply. I'll post more pix soon. thanx

i had a question with the clarion... ChikagoGTZ did you bypass it. if so let me know and what model do you have... i'm def. gettin 1. And i also heard rumors that it couldn't play videos from the ipod to the screen. adventually thats what i'm gettin. that was the whole purpose to the ipod holder.

Sorry to bring this old post back, but how is the holder working out? I'd like to see some pics of the final product.
