<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE('Reelax' @ June 29 2006 @ 02:20 PM')</div><div class='quotemain'>technically they are 1st gen JDM. the amber signals version was from taiwan. we started calling these 2nd gens back in around 2001-2002, but we were wrong. the amber versions were NEVER available in japan; so these are the 1st available 8G JDM tail lights from japan making them 1st gen JDM for the JDM 8G. the confusion comes from JDM and world spec parts being classified together (anything not USDM was considered JDM as far as our cars were concerned)... some countries such as the carrribean, taiwan and the philippines get different parts for the same model years. when we talk about 96-98 JDM and 98+ JDM 8G's, we are reffering to the 2 models of 8G that were available in japan... the original and the update. these model years do not necessarily match up to other countries such as as in europe or the rest of asia, but that's just the naming convention we go by since these are japanese cars (USDM cars are made in the US at the factory in normal, illinois). for instance, the philippines never got the update version ('98+ JDM vr4/viento front end) even though they had 8G's up until last year and taiwan's update 8G was almost completely different w/ a different grill and tail lights than either JDM or USDM. it's confusing but the naming convention we came up w/ at TGC stuck and now most USDM 8G people know these tails as 2nd gen JDM when in reality they are 1st gen JDM. further, there were ony 2 versions of the 8G available in japan, so how can there be 3 generations of JDM tail lights?</div>

if we are talking strictly JDM then yes... there were only 1st and 2nd gens, but again some markets had more than one update model (taiwan had at lesat 3) and some markets never had an update model (philippines never got the JDM 98+ Viento). every country had their own model years which were not necessarily coinciding w/ the JDM years and updates. as far as world spec goes, there are at least 4 8G galant tail types since countries like taiwan had sub models of the galant and their last 8g iteration barely resembled the JDM 8g or USDM 8g and it's tails won;t fit either w/o body modification. now the naming convention of the 1st and 2nd being called 2nd and 3rd will probably never change since it has gone on for so long and it is readily accepted at this point. add to that the number of different markets that were not syncronized w/ JDM release in europe and south america etc., not only asia, there will always be a problem w/ what we call them since we refer to world spec parts as JDM in reference to the 8G. to be completely correct we should call them '96-'98 JDM 8G galant tail lights (1st gen JDM) and '98+ JDM 8G galant tail lights (2nd gen JDM); but that won't happen cuz it's just been too long! the amber cornered version for the 1st gen JDM would actually be '97-'99 TDM 8G galant tails.Originally Posted by mattalicslvr8g02
