Pansy! About time you upgraded that POS stocker. What size are the inlet/outlets

Nice. is that just a direct bolt on from the stock?

    they are -8
so i don't even have to change my oil cooler lines.
which woudl suck cause i'd hate to fork over money for different fittings.

my old oil cooler wasnt' stock.
i just bolted the stock oil cooler from a 1990 vr4/1g with some adaptor fittigns to make them have straight -8 AN fittings instead of the stock banjo's this is at the cooler and the filter housing.

the old cooler and lines increased my oil capacity by about 3/4 quart. so i was running 5 quarts of oil total.

w/o the cooler my oil temps were consistantly at 185-190 (measured at the pan)depending on load... and it woudl take a couple long hard full throttle pulls to get my oil temp to peak at 200-205* and within a few tens of seconds, the temp woudl stabilize back at 185-190.

without the cooler(i'm currently running with the lines looped off into a coupler fitting), just one 3rd gear pull on the highway sends my oil temps as high as 250*
just one pull. and it takes as long as 20 highway miles for the temps to go back down.... 20 miles and they never drop below 210 even at just a cruise.

so needless to say oil coolers are a must. at least for boosted engines.
    just think about that...
conventional oil starts to break down past 220 degrees.
    synthetic is better,
    but hell...
anything i can do to keep it from breaking down, and to extend my oil change interval (or rather, maintain my current interval in spite of the power mods) i'm going to do it.

an oil temp gauge tells you a lot of things about yoru engine and how your drive it.
would have been nice to always have one from 0 miles on the car... that way you coudl know when to give the car a chance to catch its breath... instead of the typical relentless beatings.

    very glad i installed mine.

i'll get some pics of the cooler install on my next day off.
i'll show the comparison to the stocker, and maybe give some of you 7g guys an idea of how/where to mount one.

    stay tuned.

OK just got done installing it.
Gotta love zip ties for the front bumper... makes getting it on and off a 5 minute affair.

yeah the car is dirty, its been raining for weeks.

this is literally the wetest month in history for much of kentucky.

I'll post results of te coolers effectiveess after a couple days of observation.

That looks great! I need to mount mine better. Your lines look pretty close to your tire. Maybe zip tie them out of harms way or something.

    Thanks guys.

it sucked running w/o an oil cooler for two weeks.

i'd get in one maybe two good pulls before my oil temps would rocket up to 240+ degrees.

now it stays pretty much between 180 and 195. great thing is the factory oil filter housing has a integrated thermostatic bypass, so you don't overcool the oil, and so it doesn't take FOREVER in the winter to warm things up.

as for the lines, well yes they are in the visinity of the tires, but its mostly the angle of the shot.
from a profile angle, there is about 4-5 inches of space.
eventually i will put the fenderwell liner back in(can't believe i forgot to tget that off you at the meet seth)

i only wish i coudl mount it so the rows ran parrallell with the ground like the intercooler beside it.
i think it woudl look better that way, and if i coudl get it oriented that way, i'd actually get more surface area exposed to direct airflow, it woudl completely fill the side airdam.

I hate working in the back yard at my college apartment.
I miss my garage back in The 'Ville

i folowed the maftpro from concept to execution, and then for a year after that.

    its a very legit setup.
its a different kind of tuning but its off the hook.

with a maftpro unit you cna also run the gm mas if you wanted to.

there are a few guys on dsmtuners.com in the classifieds section that are selling their complete setups.
i can get the entire maftpro setup with speed density the whole p[lug and play harness and the boost control setup for only 450 shipped.

but i decided to go this route.

if you are going to go that route, get the pro, and a gm mas, until you master the unit.... then go speed density FTW!
