But DOHCstunr,is that alos when using the 4g64 camgears?Originally Posted by DOHCstunr
Why not just use the 4g63 cams? I don't see how you could be using a 4g64 cam gear because those are made for sohc engines which would be bigger.
I may be wrong but it just dosen't sound right to use a camgear made for a single overhead engine on a dual overhead engine.
you are using th 4g64 dohc cam gears yes?Originally Posted by microgalant
if so, then the procedure is identicle to that of 4g63.
just set the crank to tdc. make sure that the cam gears line up when the cxrank is at tdc,
make aure your oil pump sprocket is phased properly, and then set the tension on the belt.
crank it over a few times by hand.
let it sit for about 20-30 minutes.
then check the tension.
if all is good then throw your timing cover back on, install the motor mount and fire it up.

Dohcstunr,I have 2 sohc cam gears,can i use those?or can I use the 4g63 ones???Originally Posted by DOHCstunr
idk that anyone tried to run two sohc cam gears.Originally Posted by microgalant
yoru best bet woudl be to either A get a set of adjutable cam gears adn dial in the difference,
or b,
just go to the dealer or SlowBoyracing.com and get the actual 4g64dohc cam gears.
you can use the 4g63 cam gears but you have to clock them differently to account for the taller deck highet of the 4g64 block.
and after that, you have ot make new timing marks on those gears so you will be able to check your timing down the road.

DOHCstunr what difference does a 4g64 dohc and a 4g64 sohc camgears have?
I've put a 4g63 timmingbelt on my 4g64 block and 4g63 head,it seems that it fut but.
i didn't time or tight it yet
A 4g63 head 153 teeth,how much does a 4g64 dohc timmingbelt have?
i'm not sure on that... ask peanotationOriginally Posted by microgalant
the thing is you will need the 4g64 timign belt... no exception. the deck on the 4g64 is actually like 8mm taller or something.
i don't remember the exact number.
although your 4g63 belt may fit, you won't have the range of sl;ack that the auto tensioner needs to operate properly... and trust me you want it operating properly.
but ask peanotation. he knows the details

now that i think about it, i'm pretty sure the SOHC cam gears are different than the DOHC ones, because the DOHC ones are a lot smaller than the SOHC ones.
so to answer your question, no.
the cams from the sohc are the same as the dohc from a 4g63,but different marksOriginally Posted by peanotation
