2.4L SOHC, auto. The auto will probably give you a shorter time by around a tenth.
    Light em up.

I'm gonna have to agree with you, unless he used the sawzall treatment.

So you didnt go to the track? Its just a guesstimate? A stock auto gutted 7g is probably only a mid 16s car.

I have to agree. Mine with P&P head, Intake manifold, 60mm TB, short ram intake, and muffler ran a mid 15 (15.693 @ 87.87mph on my best run to be exact) with a freshly rebuilt auto. That was with Falkin Azenis on the front and full interior w/75lb sub in the trunk. Stock I ran a 16.8ish with approximately the same weight redux stated above (sorry I don't have the exact numbers, I did that testing with a G-tech not actual dragstrip). Now going by the rule of thumb that 100lbs = .1 lower ET, you'd have to remove 1000lbs to shave a full second off your ET. The Galant's kinda chunky, but not 1/2 ton of non-essential weight chunky! Just my $0.02

And 1lb off the rotating mass i.e. wheels and tires = 10 lbs off the chassis, not to mention the added bennofits to handleing from the reduce unsprung weight.
