Define bad gas mileage? How many MPG? What octane gas do you use? Any Check engine lights on?
I have recently had my fuel pump replaced when it was time. I have 109k now on my 2000 Galant V-6. My car is using way too much gas. I took it for an oil change today and mentioned it to the TECHS. They advised after looking at my records that my vehicle was fine and was not time for any other replacements in the fuel department. Any one have any ideas what else might cause my car to use too much gas as usual?

7g for life!
yeah... define the bad part... i use RP oil and a K&N filter, and nothing less than 93 octane... city driving i get around 22 mpg and highway i get between 28-32 mpg average when taking long trips... and what fuel pump did you put in?
i get atleast 20 sidestreet.. CAI at premium.. some days i do feel like yeah my g eats gas but when you think about it, i do alot of pedal to the metal stuff so it adds up.
Yeah before you complain about the mileage its good to measure it first, I know sometimes I'll look at the guage and be like "have I actually driven that much?" I got 19mpg on my last tank.

More importantly, explain "replaced my fuel pump when it was time". Unless the fuel pump failed or you upgrade to a high GPH model, why did you replace the fuel pump?

Genuine experience carries a lot more credibility than the ability to answer a question.
whats you MPG?
besides the other stuff that people have mentioned.
have u checked the tire pressure? if its too low then that can decrease fuel economy.
how about excess weight that you don't need. can u reduce that? i know my car has that problem. if you look into my trunk, i have a pot, a stove, a couple of beach chairs, a fire extinguisher, my surf bag, and my bowling shoes.
what about other maintenance needed. did you check your service records to see if your car is up to date? not just fuel but other things too? i know im getting 24mpg which is pretty horrible for me but then i know im running around on worn spark plugs and i know by changing that i'll boost up my fuel economy a tad bit.

i corrected the problem. it was my air filter..........
not mean to post jack but, i usually get 17mpg and have never gotten more than 19. is it because i have bosch platinum plugs?

No its probably because you drive it like you stole it. Mine see's WOT at least once a day, that combined with the cold weather, a CAI, and disconnected throttle body coolent lines I get in the 19 mpg range. Also what altitude are you at and what octane do you use.Originally Posted by lonestar22
