i don't konw if this is a good sign

i changed my oil yesterday and found something bad. when i took off the oil cap there was white sludge on it. i stuck my finger in the valve cover and it was only around the oil cap area. it smelled like gasoline tho. i'm at a loss as to what this is. when the oil was drained there were a few faint white lines in it. i am gonna drive the car a little and see if there will be more of that crap under there. any help would be great

when was the last time you changed your pcv valve?

most likely its just moisture.
its going to happen when it gets cold like it has been. especially if you do a lot of short trip driving(by short trip i mean under 10 miles)
your car doesn't fully warm up, and you ahve incomplete combustion, there are more vapors that collect in yoru crankcase, if these vapors aren't expelled they condense.
i woudn't worry about it unless it was mixed in with the oil on your dipstick.

ok thanks man. i changed the pcv valve maybe 2 months ago. and it's not on the dipstick. since it still has the bad clutch in it my dad drives it to work and back which is about 2 miles everyday.
