Looks like mine except double the cam

    So THAT's the infamous GS...

What's the specs on that puppy exactly Craig? How many horses does it have over my ES? Is it the same head as the 4g63? It's still a 2.4L right?

    161HP @ 7200RPM
    ~160 Ft lbs @ ~4000RPM

same block, higher CR pistons and 2g turbo head/cams

eclipse-like DIS ignition (coil-packs, not Distributor)

    "custom" ECU (e-prom, BTW)

should be a fun little car...

they also came with the 30 series transmissions, making them a lot sturdier.

oh, yeah.. they arent perfect.. but you probably wont snap shafts in half (which ive seen happen several time on "modded" 20 series trannies.)

if you have a GS, then yes, it did come with a 30 series. but the 20 series is NOT just automatics. there were 20 and 30 series autos and manuals, as well as 40 and 50 series autos and manuals for the current generation.

and as i said, they were stronger, but not perfect.

maybe we're Talking about Something different?

I'm talking about the transmission code

    the last couple #'s

mine is f5m31.. and turbo FWD eclipse/talon is f5m33

the one from the Factory..was a 31, as Well...

no, youre right.. the last 2 digits represent the series and version.
it works like this.. F5M31 means front drive, 5 gears, manual, 30 series, version 1.
if it was a F4A31 it would be a front drive, 4 gear automatic, 30 series, version 1
and so on and so forth.

So what is the strongest factory Auto tranny I can use on my 98? The F4A33? Will it bolt right up?

no.. the bellhousing is different from 4 cylinders to 6 cylinders.
the strongest you can use is probably already in your car.. it should be a f4a21, 22, or 23 (the 23 being the strongest of the 3)
